Man, another awesome thread! This is almost as good as the MMA/manual dexterity question.

is there anyone here who has matriculated who has any information? im not a heavy user, just recreational. i tend to stop when i get busy with things, like i will during dental school

I believe the appropriate term is "self-medication"

Do dental schools really drug test? I won't have any issues but just curious because I have never heard of that...

You're my favourite troll, so I'm not going to report you 😀

i guess the only way u can find out is asking a few of your friends or friend of a friend who is in dental school? That would be the best way !!

This too is a legit response. Is it wrong to use steroids or performance enhancing drugs when you're not training to compete in sport? What if you're taking benzos for anxiety?

LMAO
👍👍👍

yes by all means, call the school and describe this very serious issue at hand.

i'd make sure to state your full name, dentpin #, AADSAS ID, and any other crucial pieces of info they may need.
and the fact that you're so confident you'll be getting into their school, that you want to stop your illegal drug use early enough so it doesn't get caught.
:xf:
best of luck with that!
hope it turns out how it should 😉 😉 LOL

I know that penn, nova, and uf test. They take a hair sample within first month of starting.

if its a urine test, contact Onterrio Smith. former NFL running back. see if he still has the original whizzinator he used.

Kat williams says that its ok to not smoke if you've got a job...

I would consider getting into dental school a 'job' so its ok to stop man... its ok... i swear... its ok. You'll be alright.

Just put the blunt down. 👍

How bout you just stop using all together? Why risk the chance of becoming a dentist?

No schools drug test. Just go for it man. I mean, I know I want my dentist to be smoking pot when he is working on me. . .

This is as nonsensical as saying I don't want my dentist drinking alcohol, ever. He may get drunk out of nowhere and fill teeth!

thank god someone here is mature

Yeah, and you would be a great example of what maturity is. A junior in college applying for professional school wondering how long he can continue breaking the law with his drug use. Awesome. But what do I know, I'm probably just another one of those immature dental students out there. But in my opinion, if you want to be a professional, you better start acting professional.

Just a little longer term perspective here. Whether or not you get caught in dental school is kind of irrelevant. Just wait until you are practicing and get reported to the state dental board for using illegal drugs. Every single state dental board has a "Dentist Well Being Committee" that is in charge of reviewing reported drug abuse, and determining if a dentist is able to keep their license or not. They can restrict or completely revoke your license. The reporting can be done anonymously by patients, office staff, colleagues, and just about anyone else that you may have pissed off that knows about your use. Also, having any kind of arrest for drug use is a great way to lose your DEA number and prescribing power. So seriously, it may be harmless fun, but the consequences can be severe, especially when you are getting into a self regulating profession. Again, dental school is the least of your worries when it comes to this kind of thing.

A couple of years back... remember about that dentist who use to shoot himself up on cocaine in the bathroom before he went to do surgery?

He ended up losing his license and then he went to work for an organ transplant company. While he was there, he started harvesting organs from dead people at funerals without permission, even from bodies with diseases. He made butloads of money though!

Of course he got caught again and hes never to be seen again...

Its losers like this who take seats of honest, hard working, drug free students who just want to serve the community dentistry and not brownies.

Such an HONEST person!!!
I don't think you get tested for it until after they accept you then you have to get a medical examination from your own doctor!! which I assume has all type of blood test and urine...
so dont worry too much yet!!
Get your interviews first then worry

I love all these stereotypes about people that smoke. Maybe some of these people should hold off on judgement until they become a little bit more educated on the subject and until they realize how many people really do smoke.

Also- Bad idea to post this question to a forum and profession with so many people that belong to a religion that doesn't agree with the mj/alcohol/etc.............

So you're here to accuse others of stereotyping and then you proceed to stereotype the profession (and the demographics of the entire forum)?

You're right. I apologize and I will delete that last sentence.

That's what we like to hear: a lot of people do it, so it must not be such a bad thing. 👎

Please enlighten us for those that are interested --- what exactly is there to be 'educated' about?
Most everyone knows about ILLEGAL drug use. what could you have to offer to the discussion?
Perhaps your using it for a medical reason? hmm?

You're right though.
"how many people really do smoke" --- it is common for ILLEGAL drug use to occur. therefore, it MUST be okay, since others are doing it!
screw all those stories of 'if X jumped off a bridge, would you?" when you're younger. others are doing ILLEGAL drugs. therefore, everyone else should !!!.................?

Lol
one of the funniest posts i think thus far on SDN.
and the potheads defending the OP, just add to the 'discussion':laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

What about medical marijuana?

In states such as California, basically anyone can obtain a legal marijuana card that allows him/her to have up to 1.5 ounces of weed in possession at all times. In fact, I have a buddy who got pulled over for speeding with a half ounce of buds and when the officer confronted him about the weed stench in the car, he showed his weed card, and then gave the officer a nice big bud and he let him go without a ticket lol.

CA have tons of weed dispensaries that look like a regular shops where one can walk in, show the card and purchase whatever he/she wants among a long list of different varieties, and even stay there and consume the product afterwards in a special smoking room for the customers.

Would a dentist in CA (or in another state where it's legal) with a valid medical marijuana card be able to practice dentistry?

Good story bro. Oh wait, too bad its illegal to drive and smoke medicinal marijuana in CA. Still a DUI... Your friend lied to you. (nor can you walk down the street in cali and smoke medicinal mary jay)

And you cannot compare smoking weed to drinking alcohol (from further up on the thread) because, 1) alcohol is legal; 2) you can drink a glass of wine at lunch and continue to practice dentistry without being at risk for losing your license where as if you smoke a blunt on your lunch break and then treat a patient, you are ska-rewed.

And I am well educated on the medicinal properties of marijuana and the use:death ratio compared to alcohol and cigarettes (thanks to a drugs & behavior psych class in undergrad) but that information and education is negated by the legal status of the drug and the consequences of using it.

I never said he was smoking the weed in the car. It was unused sitting in a bag which is analogous to having an unopened six pack of beer in the backseat of the car. You can't get arrested for that. I mean how is one suppose to transport the weed from the legal dispensary back to one's home?

i saw that on "american greed". that dentist was messed up on totally different levels. i dont think he is a good example to use because he is a extreme outlier

To be Professional or to not be.....that is the question.

Weed is also an aphrodisiac. I know a bunch of hot girls who love to smoke before getting naked as they claim the sex intensity is unreal.

I don't know why people condemn it. It's natural, 100% organic and was put on this earth by God for a reason, not to mention the thousands of doctors, lawyers, judges and law enforcement people who use it recreationally themselves.

Um..I don't even know how to respond to this. But to the OP, its just not worth the risk. You are about to enter/hoping to enter a professional field, with many restrictions and/or responsibilities. This is worth so much more than any temporary highs you are getting from these drugs...

🙂

Btw, I'm a non-user. I just have nothing against people who use it as apparently there are benefits.

There's actually an increase in the concentration of THC compared to the last few decades. It is harmful with the concentration that's used today compared to the 70's.

i dont understand why there is so much hate on this thread. first off, i'd like to make it clear that im not some stoner loser who gets high all the time. i've worked really hard in college and have experimented with different things. why? because i was curious. i used to be anti-pot too until i tried it. it wasnt long before i realized its not bad at all and most of the reputation is bad hype from the media. hell most of my sciences classes i studied high and got high grades, i was never inhibited. honestly, i think it improved my abilities in orgo and physics. i'd say about 70% of my friends are rec users too, wanna guess where they are right now? lets see, a few in med school, a few in pharm school, a few in law school, a few in dent school...seeing a trend here?

And who says im not a hard worker and that i dont want to give back to the community? to the poster golden boy who thinks people like me are taking seats from you, tough noogies; welcome to the real world. there are more everyday people than you can imagine who "indulge" regularly.

And whats with this speculation that im gonna smoke out regularly as a dentist and go perform surgeries on my patients. as a professional and recreational user i find it completely irresponsible to hold the patient to anything less than perfect. in any social and professional setting you'll never suspect im a recreational user, i make sure of that. behind close doors i could care less about what others think. i choose to do what i want as long as it doesnt harm myself, my career, and my family.

the legality issue:
theres a thin line between whats unlawful and whats wrong. It's this thin line of justice humanity as argued over for centuries. justice is not clear cut, there are many theories. to some people following the law is absolute and thats the way they choose to live their lives. on the other hand, others like me, choose to live a different way. laws are set forth to maintain harmony in society, lets agree on that. part of being a educated professional is being able to question whats already set forth (is this the basis for all of science?). this type of thinking is the driving force of western civilization.

so..now that we have all that out of the way. can we please stay on topic? i still havent gotten a legit response from someone from the schools listed above.

important note: this is pointed specifically towards pot. i am against hard substances such as cocaine, etc and would not reccomend those even for recreational use as they just **** your life up.
