My AMCAS had 5 semesters of grades. My premed counselor said that was fine. In my sixth semester, my GPA remained the same, but I got an incomplete in my gymn class. This semester, I'm taking another gymn class, which I'm going to get an incomplete in again. So I'm wondering whether I should postpone taking this class until next semester. (I have to have 2 gymn classes to graduate)

Why would I get an incomplete? My school has this "swim requirement", for which you have to swim across an olympic sized pool three times. Yes, I know you're laughing hysterically, but I'm serious. For the longest time, I thought it was some kind of joke, but I spoke to the folks in the PE office, and they're quite serious about it. Anyways, I'm working on it, and I think I'll be able to do it by next Spring (my last semester). To add insult to injury, any gymn classes you pass before fulfilling the swim test are marked as incomplete on your transcript. The incomplete is removed once you pass the swim test.

I don't want colleges seeing two, or even one incompletes on my transcript though. Do AMCAS med schools ask for transcripts at any point? If so, when?

man that's vicious....if i were at that school i'd never have graduated 🙂

AMCAS verifies the info on your transcript with your application. Med schools don't ask to see your transcripts unless you are accepted and matriculating, by which time all coursework must be completed or your spot in a class is forfeited.

Non-AMCAS schools, however, do need to see your transcript at the same time you send in your application....though i will admit, i am sure they won't care that you have incompletes in GYM. 😉

You go to Columbia, don't you?

Actually I think this was true, LOL. So what exactly is the problem here. Jump in and do it already. Hint: just push off the wall strongly and the distance seems A LOT shorter...😉

OMG, I am still laughing...you have a great interview story right there though...

hahahah omg I can't stop laughing...sorry Shantanu but hah 😉

what school is this???!???

i'd never graduate considering i can't even swim (i just bounce on my boogie board)!

My dad went to U of Wisconsin, Madison for undergrad and this was a requirement. (This was a long time ago however

My husband graduated from MIT in 1990 and had to pass the swim test. My father passed his swim test at MIT back in the late 50's. It is not just an urban myth.

It certainly is an entertaining reason to explain an incomplete grade during an interview.

I believe they do see your grades - whatever you've filled out in AMCAS, schools see the classes you've taken and the grades recieved.

Cornell does that crap.
