Hi everyone,

Do they look at/take into consideration where you went to school for undergrad when applying to dental school? If so, how big of a role does it play when applying?

Yes the admissions committee members do take where you attend undergrad into consideration with the rest of your application. The dean of admissions at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine gave me this example. If you have two predental students, one from an Ivy League school(Harvard, Columbia, etc) with a 3.0gpa and the other from a community college with a 4.0 the student from the more difficult and prestigious undergrad will deff have the advantage.

Although this is an extreme example it does hold true that undergrad is taken into consideration. However, I believe the most competative applicants today are the ones that have the whole package ie. competative DAT and GPA, strong letters of recommendation, experience and shadowing, personal statement etc.

Undergrad is only one factor out of many factors that admissions look at.

interesting. There's alot of people in my class from all walks of life and from ivy to community college, so its really difficult to tell the preference from the person holding your application
