Hey guys.. I am wondering if dental students are allowed to work (international studnets holding an I-20 visa) and if so will we have enough time to work part time and still maintain high GPA. Is there anybody who is doing this; I would like to hear from ya. thanks

depends on what you mean by part-time. Sure you can pick up a few hours here and there, but I wouldn't expect to work more than 5-6 hours week and still be making A's.

i worked the first 1.5 years in dental school at UF and made nearly all A's. I worked about 8-15 hours a week. It is tough though. I recommend being organized. I wouldn't recommend it however.

I taught ESL classes this year...about 10 hrs a week. It is definitely doable, but I don't recommend it.

Thanks all, it looks like its allot tougher than undergrad, cause I worked 16 hrs a week and studied the rest and had all As.. I think I'll just relax and study.. thanks again

My wife and I both work about 30 hours every 2 week pay period. It's not hard at all, but than again we could care less about grades

With your I-20, I believe you are allowed to work only on campus ( like a TA job or at student center, etc.)

however, you have to file income tax , even if it is minimal and below the taxable limit. I've seen some international graduate fellows scratching their head worrying about filing tax return for 20 dollars / month " income" from their lab. I am not sure if it is worth your precious time .
