Do we have to wear a suit to interviews?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know all this dress talk is just because everyone is excited about interviews, but it really doesn't matter. Just look professional. Black suit, grey suit, tan suit, who cares... If you have the resources to wear a tan, grey, or blue suit, then yea, do it. If you don't, just wear black. Wearing a smooth suit with a trendy tie and shirt will not do much for you except boost your own confidence (which is a good thing).

um a lot of ppl dont have $300 to spend in this economy. some of us have bills to pay. oh well, i'll manage

You mean there are people out there that do not have to pay their bills?

has anyone posting on this thread been invited to an interview yet?

Question for the ladies, what do you suggest to keep your feet from slipping out your shoes when wearing pantyhose?

well everyone that has bills has to pay them, but not everyone has bills in their name to begin with 😉.

Good you clarified. So if bills are not in their name they are not responsible; kind of like moochers.

if they're a little big you can stuff a tissue into the toe, unless you get toe cleavage that way and then go for the Dr. Scholl's

on the topic, i think pantyhose were created by the devil, they're awful and itchy and uncomfortable and i always rip them! :meanie:

if that's what you call being fortunate enough to still live under your parents' financial umbrella because that is the setup best for both student and parents, then yea, sure, moochers. 😀

Ive worked in Manhattan in midtown for over a year, in an investment bank. NO ONE wears black and white, absolutely NO ONE. Everyone wears boxed or striped shirts and pinstriped suits or something with a little color. On my interview (i went on many) there were always a couple of people wearing colored shirts and many people wore colored suits. The admissions director and several interviewers actually commented on the fact that everyone was wearing the same boring clothes and complemented me and another dude on having some color. You dont want to blend on an interview you want to stand out. You my friend are clueless.

I am a PD for a residency program in NY. I interview senior dental students each year. I am on the interviewing end. I think I have a clue. As faculty at two dental schools and a medical school, I think I have a clue. Suit yourself.

googlygrape,
wear professional attire. It doesnt have to be a "masculine" suit for women. Ive seen many women wearing nice, professional blouses and skirts (not short). Just look sharp.

this is literally the funniest thread i have ever seen, and i have seen a lot.

IMO i think the way you look or what colors you wear is the least important thing that happens in the interview. Look sharp and professional... enough said.

No one will look at you and say... it's a shame they didn't go for the armani suit... that's where they really blew it. And i promise that the adcom wont say "D**n it.... another black suit... really what were you thinking?!" Again just look sharp and professional...

You might get in just for having guts.

I know most of you are just finishing college, but I can promise you you're eventually going to need a suit again so you might as well do it right this time. That doesn't mean it has to be expensive, but at least get something that fits decent off the rack then get it tailored.

You're coughing up hundreds if not thousands for aadsas fees, whats another $100-200? You can get a great brand name suit at Burlington's in that price range. Mens Warehouse has decent deals sometimes but you'd be getting less at the same price. Black is fairly typical but if you look good in it then go for it 👍

Can I wear my skinny tie? I want to look baller when I go to the interview. Also, I want to wear two watches just to show the schools that I can afford their tuition. Do you all think that is too much?

Haha, it's been a long while since I last put on my suit. Wearing a suit does boost your self confidence.

Only if the skinny tie is wide enough to floss the Versace logo. 👍

only if they're rolexes. wear 2 on each wrist, to make sure they notice. then give away the other 3 to the interviewers.
