Do we need to bring anything to interviews?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Bring your psp or gameboy, so you have something to do if they ask boring questions

A copy of your CV if you haven't sent one, a copy of any published research, and something to read/do during downtime.

You might have questions related to your research or CV and it would be nice to be able to give a copy if asked.

You should bring with you several copies of your resume and articles if you are authored. However, do not just hand them to the interviewers, ask them if they would like it.

If you wrote down questions, which is not a bad idea, bring them in a clean notebook.

Keep a change of clothes and shoes in your car just in case.

I think its really important to remember that you are interviewing the school just as much as they are interviewing you. They write down things about you...so ask questions and write things down about the institution and they'll notice that you are interested...which is always good.

If the school you interview at provides you free lunch....bring floss. Nothing like having a piece of green stuck between your front teeth after lunch and then having to go for your interview.

I already asked this in the pre-allo forum, but I wanted to get opinions in here as well, as all but one of my interviews are at DO schools so far. I have several things I need to bring with me to interviews, and I obviously cannot carry everything in my hands. Most of the bags I have to carry stuff in have brand labels on them. The best one I have really is a black tote that says "The Metropolitan Museum of Art New York" on it in large white letters. Here is a link to a picture of the bag, since I don't know how to post pictures here: http://www.metmuseum.org/store/images/Z.ac.O3124.O3127.L.jpg. The one I have is the short, wide one. Is this completely inappropriate? I thought that at the very least, it would maybe be a conversation piece, but I don't want to use it if it could be considered tacky or otherwise not a good thing to be carrying around. I know that most/all schools provide a folder for papers they hand out, but I have to carry things that won't fit in a folder (e.g. glasses, listerine breath spray, small hairbrush, cellphone which will be on silent or off at all times). Any and all input would be appreciated. Thanks!

It looks like a nice bag but I can't see it going well with suit. It just seems a little loud to me.

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about. Unfortunately, it's that, nothing, or something even worse. 🙁 Eh.

Can you make a quick shopping trip and find something that might go better? Your interview is soon though isn't it?

Yeah, it's Tuesday. I don't have time to find anything else, I have class tomorrow from 9-5 and then I'm going to dinner for my brother's 21st birthday before heading to the airport to fly there. Crap.

Any friends or family that might be able to let you borrow something?

The only bags my mom has are even worse, and unfortunately, I don't have classes with any friends this year... looks like I'm going to be going bagless. Thanks for trying to help, though!

No problem! If nothing else you can always take the bag with you and decide at the last minute if you want to use it or not. Hey maybe if you do use the bag people will be in awe of how cultured and stylish you are. 😀 Oh and :luck::luck: on your interview!

whatever you do leave the bag in the lobby, adcoms don't seem to appreciate cultured and stylish during interview time

Thanks EEL08!! I do plan to take the bag just in case... I'm going to ask the girls I'm staying with what they think. And EMT2ER-DOC, thanks for the advice, I didn't even think of that. I'm going to be at the airport super early, so I might as well see what they have. Who knows what I'll find?

Or you could just go to Walmart/Target/Kohls/etc. and not pay inflated airport prices.

I don't have time. I'm leaving for the airport in about 30 minutes and I'm still putting last minute things away.
