I am 1 hour away from getting my minor in chemistry but what kind of certification will I get? Will it say on my diploma that I have a minor or will I get to walk across the stage twice? Or is it just like "hey I have a minor" but no real way to prove it.

It'll show up on your transcripts, for sure. I don't know if it'll be on your diploma or not because UNC has a policy of only printing 2 things on your diploma. My majors got the nod while my chem minor was left out. Either way, I'd go ahead and get the minor. "I have a minor in chem" sounds a whole lot more important than "I took a lot of chem in college."

It really doesn't matter who you are trying to prove it to, you won't be carrying around a copy of your diploma so it doesn't really matter if it's there or not. If you are trying to prove this to a future employer, those things are usually taken at face value. If you are trying to prove it to an admission committee they will just see from your transcript.

I'm doing a minor in philosophy (and dual-listing Biochem under BIO and CHEM, so I'm getting a chem minor too... but that's just cause of pre-med stuff, so I don't really mention it). But the philosophy minor I did because it gave me a sense of finality/accomplishment in a field that I wanted some actualy education in. If you're 1 hour away, I'd do it simply to save myself the hastle of saying "yeah, I took a ton of chem in college" and instead saying "I have a chem minor." lol, just seems like it would save me some hastle

im two hours away and i dont really want to do it either. i'd rather take 2 more upper level chemistry courses than my two remaining organic labs

In a lot of places you have to APPLY to get your minor. Find out if this is true at your school. It's not just a matter of taking the right courses...you have to apply and apply in a timely fashion (i.e. have someone verify that you took the right coursework). There were forms at my school.

Good luck. It should be noted on your transcript.

If you got a math minor, like me, you get an awkward question from a PhD in theoretical neuroscience (aka, he uses math everyday in his research to guess how the brain works) ask you exactly what you learned from each of your math classes in an interview 😕

It's only one hour, I'd take something if you enjoy Chemistry and finish it out. It can't hurt
.
During my last interview I was told that minors are "worthless" and that "nobody really cares about them." Of course, this was only one admission committee member's opinion, so take it with a grain of salt. Still, if you really hate chemistry and can't find a class that you could survive through, it won't hurt you to forget it.

I think minors are good things. Mine didn't show up on my diploma, but they do show up on my transcript, and in ERAS, I could list my major and minors.

I'm able to say I minored in German Studies, Spanish, and Chemistry. I almost had minors in music and religious studies, so for those two, I can only comment on how I took a lot of classes in the two subjects, but I was not able to complete a minor. I only need 1 credit to get my chem minor with my bio major, so that worked out well. It was also the easiest chem class I ever had.
