So some of my friends and I were talking, and do you think the interviewers take into account how nice your teeth are during the interview?? I know it's a random question, but I often wonder if they look at applicants that obviously brush and floss well vs someone whose teeth look like they haven't brushed in years

plus, everyone that I know who's gotten in this year has had wonderful looking teeth, but I'm sure the sample size isn't large or random enough to make any conclusions based just on that.

I would think that the health of your teeth matters to them (if anything), not so much the cosmetic appearance. Someone can have superb teeth with no cavities that are as crooked/stained as ****. They know not everyone can afford braces, but everyone can afford floss and a toothbrush.

But on the other hand, GPA and DAT and EC > teeth appearance

It's not like physicians are often the pinnacle of health either.

Personally, I currently wear a partial denture due to a nasty bike accident I had when I was little. The rest of my teeth are healthy, but I certainly have dental problems, haha.

My teeth are pretty healthy. I'm getting some gum reduction though (probably from brushing too hard) 🙁

A pretty smile/face lends to the overall general appearance, and while it is not a requirement, prettier people tend to have an easier time getting jobs over others less fortunate.

In psychology, there's something called physical attractiveness bias where attractive people are often perceived to be more favorable, competent, and intelligent.

I don't know if a nice smile/teeth is a make-or-break deal, but it can form good or bad judgments about people's overall impression of you, I assume.

Don't worry about it! I'm sure your smile is fine =)

When I applied for a dental assistant job, experience seems to be a key factor, along with positive attitude.

More on physical attractiveness bias below.

You wouldn't hire a personal trainer who was obese...same thing imo for teeth. But there is a difference between healthy teeth and "beautiful" teeth. Like mentioned before not everyone can afford to have braces, but your gums can be a number indicator of whether you floss/brush properly. Teeth whitener isn't too expensive either.

My teeth are all sorts of beautiful. I admire myself in the mirror for hours at a time.

Honestly, mine could be slightly nicer🙂

I had a horse kick out all my front teeth (not to mention F up my jaw pretty bad) when I was a kid. At this point, I have a (fake) movie star smile.

It cost a lot, but at least I didn't need braces!

Im sorry. That sounds quite painful 🙁 what were you trying to do?? Don't tell me you spanked the horse. I knew a vet who had the same thing happen to him and our office did his entire maxilla basically... Took an oral Surg and a prostho guy to reconstruct his mouth again -_-

I'm getting invisalign to correct a few minor things. Can't have anything short of textbook definition teeth. Im just neurotic and stare at teeth too much.

For my sake, I hope that teeth appearance are taken into account... don't mean to brag but I have sparkling white teeth! 😛 and I also have huge cuspids that make me look like I belong on Twilight. My teeth are also extremely straight. My father as well, he was paid by a ceramic company to get an impression of his teeth to be used as a model for perfect teeth 😀

.... unfortunately though, Karma has really struck me... I'm developing a cross-bite, and to my horror last sunday morning I woke up with really weird feeling teeth. I got to the mirror and saw that my 2 bottom central incisors are cracked! 🙁 I'll probably need a crown or something 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁

My teeth look great when I smile... Thats good enough for the interviewers and patients I think. However, I have very soft enamel and consequently have tons of amalgam haha 😀

From far away and in pictures my teeth are straight and pretty but up close they are severely demineralized from when I had braces--and I don't use the word "severely" lightly. Guess I wasn't taking the best care of them even though I didn't think I was doing that bad of a job at the time. I've tried a lot of procedures to remedy it but all the dentists I've seen have said veneers are my only option at this point.

It's actually taken a huge toll on my self esteem; I'm a senior in college and I've been insecure about my teeth since 8th grade. It's actually one of the biggest driving factors for me wanting to go into dentistry. I'll probably finally get those veneers with my student loans before I go off to dental school (maybe even before my interview? suggestions?) because I can't bear the thought of being surrounded by students with perfect teeth while mine are heavily damaged. I also know the students frequently practice on each other, and that just terrifies me.
