During interviews, do you tell the admissions comittee what they want to hear, or the truth? ... for example, when they ask, would you rather be a leader or a follower, almost always they would like to hear that you would like to be a leader ... but what if you wouldn't?

In your example, I would have no problem answering in being a follower. In order to lead properly you need to be a good follower. Watching my superiors manage at work has given me awesome insight in leadership skills and how to handle different personalities. Admissions want followers and leaders. You can't have an entire class full of leaders otherwise there will be huge conflict regarding group work.

When they asked me what my role usually is in group projects, and I didnt lie. I said I was usually always the idea person. The one with the creative out-of-the box plans. I said I didnt see myself as a leader, but I had no qualms about telling people what I thought would best serve the team when needed.

If you are interested in pharmacy for the right reasons (i.e. not about the money, the chicks or the proximity to controlled substances) then you have nothing to lose by being honest. Yes, you can pretty things up a bit, but dont tell them what you think they want to hear. They are looking for all types of people, so if you tell them you are a leader they may think...hmmm too bad, we need some more team players. Not everyone is or should be a leader, and they recognize that.

The only thing that I might have fudged a bit was when they asked if I like to work in a group or by myself. I said that I liked to work in small groups sometimes and by myself sometimes. But honestly? I've only had maybe one group project that has gone smoothly. I do like to study in groups/do group discussions, but I really loathe working on presentations/papers with other people. I usually get grouped with people that don't really care or don't understand the assignment. It might change in pharmacy school, but I like to be able to only have to rely on myself when it comes to grades.

As far as lying about other stuff - why bother? It might come back and bite you, and I'd rather not have to stress about it. If worse comes to worse, omission is better than not telling the truth.

If you seem to claim yourself as a leader too quickly, they might think that you are dominating, stubborn, you want your own ideas without listening to the points of others. You do not have to call yourself a leader to answer this question the right way.

I'm not much of a sugar-coater. I was challenged in one of my interviews and kind of came back at one of the interviewers (in a polite, but "you're full of feces" kind of way). Needless to say, I'm not hopeful that I'm going to get into that school (which is unfortunate since it was my first choice).

Unless that was the idea... Who knows? I haven't been rejected yet, so there might be hope yet.

I think that what they are looking for is: "Is your answer contradict with what you stated in your application?"

Now come to this:
1) in your application, do you list any activities that put you in a leadership position?
2) in your application, do you list any extracurricular activities?

If you answer YES to both, you can say you are somewhat a leader. If you answer NO to either one, NEVER say you are a leader.

What wrong with the answer: "I am a follower with a potential to become a leader naturally"

I dont think you should have stretch the truth to them next time. If you look above you'll see that I answered almost the exact same thing. In fact my whole letter of intent was centered around my struggles with social anxiety disorder. So they are not centered only on picking the outgoing, rambling, leaders.

Yeah, that is good advice. I will just be so disappointed if I don't get in, and I feel like my biggest flaw is the same thing you said, social anxiety disorder. But you are right, instead of lying about it, I should do a better job of explaining it. It is good to hear it worked for you.....gives me confidence if I have to try again.

They tend to ask you questions that expand on your previous answer, thus one lie will lead to another lie and another and another...until you're in so deep you can't get out. Plus you'll be struggling to keep it all straight and that allow them to see straight through you.

Besides why lie just so you can get in? If pharmacy isn't what you want, why bother making yourself go through 4 yrs of hell? Don't do this because your parents force you too. You'll be so miserable you eventually may drop out and would waste all that time, effort, and money. Is it worth it?

I don't say that the adcom is totally stupid, but I just want to say that you can get into pharm school if you are a good actor...

You do know that lying during the application process is grounds for getting kicked out of the school/taking away your acceptance. They can even kick you out in the middle of your four years if they found out you lied during the application process. I hope Nova finds out that you lied and takes away your acceptance.

How do you feel about screwing over another applicant who spent a lot of time volunteering and working while possibly having their grades and social life suffer so they can have a competitive application...just so a scumbag like yourself can lie to the admission committee about doing the same things and then you take away their seat? I know if I applied to Nova and got rejected or waitlisted I would be sending them an e-mail/calling about you right now. Hopefully they will check up to see if you got your bachelors degree and when they see you didn't they will take away your acceptance.

And they have pity for you and note that on your interview sheet. Then the entire adcom meets to review the students. They come to yours and read your comment about iraq and your arm. Then they look at your transcripts and notice that you have been in school since 2001 yet you said you lost it in 2003. They realize you were not telling them the true so they turn around and tell you the truth....your rejected!

Watch what you say to an adcom member. They have likely heard it all and can readily find out the truth. At least on certain issues. Be forewarned!

It is very hard to believe him since I was interviewed to several schools and it's almost impssible to lie because they will ask you to detail your experience.

I talked to a guy in admissions up north. He told me about how so many people have broken down and cried during interviews. I guess people just nervously say "yes" to a question when really they mean no... then he usually asks them to go more in-depth into their answer... and they just break down from the pressure. unno: They were all women though. He said one guy got a little teary eyed once. 😳

I just know that if I applied to Nova and spent a lot of time volunteering and working at a job while getting a bachelors degree and got rejected or waitlisted I would be pretty pissed that this person lied and got in. People sacrifice a lot of things in order to have the time to volunteer and have a job.

I would just say someone told me they lied to the adcom about getting a BS Biochemistry degree before they start attending your school...when they knew they wouldn't get it until May 2007, and they also informed me that they lied about volunteering and job experience. They might check to see if his transcript has a Biochemistry BS degree on it when they recieve it and if it doesn't they will tell him they are withdrawing his acceptance. It doesn't seem too far fetched to me. I am sure they will be a little more mature than you and understand why I would be calling.

Don't feed this troll anymore. He posted earlier that he got a reject from Pittsburgh with a 99 PCAT and a 3.95 GPA. He also posted this long interview he "remembered" that I think gave some people the wrong impression of what interviews are often like. He's just stirring up trouble. It's really sad if he DID get into NOVA - there are some great people on this board that are going to have to put up with him in their class if he decides to attend. It's sad that jerks like this are going to be helping patients in a health care setting someday.

They should check, and hopefully they do. I am sure you would consider contacting Nova and going "to this extreme" if you were just put on their waiting list and had similar stats (truthful stats that is) as he did.

I don't know why I really care...since I didn't apply there and already have an acceptance. I guess it just bothers me that someone like him is going to get in and ruin the image of our profession...when another harder working truthful person could be going to Nova instead of him.

In all probability he wasn't accepted and is just trolling. Actually, I looked at his post history and am certain he is lying since the facts are completely different in his posts.

I dropped the conversation because you kept ignoring the legality of being allowed to sleep when you are the only pharmacist in the pharmacy...which was a point i repeatedly brought up.
