Today I was looking at UCSF's website and they said that you only need 4 credits of Organic Chemistry. Is this right? Can i take orgo 1 and be fine for applying or do I need orgo 2 for the DAT?

There are a couple schools that don't require Orgo 2 (Tufts is another one), but most of them do require it. I mean, if you're only going to apply to UCSF, then I suppose you don't have to take it if you don't want to, but I don't know why you'd limit your choices. It's covered on the DAT, though.

Yeah, even though you don't "need" to take it, it will look better if you do, and probably 95% of everyone else or more has already taken it. Also, to get a good score on the Ochem section of the DAT it would probably be a good idea, especially since most of the questions I got were from second semester.

Many schools require you to have at least 6 -8 credit hours in Organic Chemistry (although yes, there are some schools that only require 4 credit hours in organic), so it would be beneficial for you to take orgo 2. Additionally, orgo 2 material will be covered on the DAT, so you will have to go over that material anyways. Although you can take the DAT if you just self-study orgo 2 material, I think it would be a little more difficult and you would have to have good discipline to go over the material on your own. But since there are schools that require more than 4 credit hours in organic, I would advise you to take orgo 2. You can apply to schools only having taken orgo 1, but you will need to take orgo 2 before you matriculate for the schools that require it.
