do you need to have good teeth to be a dentist

no i don't think so. I mean you should have HEALTHY teeth but if they aren't aesthetically perfect, i don't think that matters at all. Maybe if you want to do ortho it does.
 
I would disagree with the above posters. When you smile and talk to patients, the first thing they notice is your teeth. If your teeth are yellow, crooked, multiple diastemas, you lose your credibility especially if you are selling cosmetic procedures. I have had multiple patients compliments my (and other students') teeth and smile - they do notice.
 
It's like having an overweight personal trainer, so you probably do need some aesthetically pleasing teeth to garner respect, but the awesome thing is it's so easy! Get ortho, whitening, veneers, etc. and you're set
 
Well, assuming you first get into dental school, why not have work done on your teeth? I'm assuming pretty much all schools cover a lot of dental work for their dental students. I've even seen some students at my school who wear braces.
