Currently looking at my stats to consider my eligibility in the States dental schools, I'm doubting whether I should even apply upcoming term.

Here's my stats so please bear with me (I sincerely request for your advice):

I've recently graduated from a Canadian university with a cGPA of 2.98
(yes, I know 👎).

This may sound like a dull excuse now, but I had clinical depression since senior year in high school and it got carried on till the first two years of university (blah blah blah)
It left a scar left across my transcript for the first two years of undergrad.

After I found my passion for pursuing dentistry, I tried to supplement my shortcomings by doing alright on DAT (AA 22, PA 19) and boosting up my GPA of the last two years to 3.7-3.8.

The increasing trends in my marks are undoubtedly evident on the transcript,
but cGPA is holding me back....... :'(

Please be honest with me. What are my chances of acquiring an interview?

At this moment, I feel pretty stuck and I my directions are blurred..

I'll be contemplating all your precious opinions seriously to make a final decision as to whether I'll be applying for US dental this June or not.. Thank you!

Don't forget to apply to UWO Schulich. They only look at the best 2 years 🙂

You should be fine to apply. They definitely look at trends and they understand that you messed up in the past.

I don't think it's reckless per se, but that cumulative GPA is a little rough. They do take upward trend very seriously but that said, it's a case by case scenario. You might get weeded out by a computer system in many schools. But your DATs are solid. As long as there aren't any sections under 18 then I think you will be fine. Apply broadly and apply to all the schools that accept Canadians and see what happens. I'd also enroll in a 1 year bio masters program if I were you, to prepare for the worst.

I dunno... I think you have a shot. I mean the cGPA is in the 3.0 range but what is your science (I bet its higher).... what about BCP GPA? again, I bet higher.

I think you have an okay shot... the only problem you might have is the fact you are canadian. DEFINITELY apply to detroit mercy, they accept a good number of canadians each year.

Thx guys! I really appreciate your feedback.. and such encouraging responses!

I guess it doesn't hurt to try.
I mean you only live once, right? 🙂

Good luck to you all!!

yolo my fellow Marauder! (assuming you go to McMaster)

Don't bother with Canadian Schools. you need around 3.85 for interviews (best two or cGPA) depending on school. Sask is around a 3.93 for interviews. For US you should be able to do that...but get the cGPA over 3 or it gets tossed in the garbage by the computer. Call the schools and speak to directors so they actuallly watch for your applaction.
I had a way worse application that I improved (did second degree with 3.93 gpa) and got in...but you need to have somethign for them to work with which you do.

Oh no, Canadian schools are out of question for me.. I know I stand no chance at all.

May I ask which schools in the States you'd applied to? And where you were interviewed?
I don't think I'll be applying this round (thinking about doing 2 years of masters first) but I would like to know for future reference..
