My personality is so magnetic, I am unable to carry credit cards. I never say something tastes like chicken. Not even chicken. I am the only man to ever ace an inkblot test. If I were to give you directions, you'd never get lost, and you'd arrive at least five minutes early. My reputation expands like the universe. I'm a lover, not fighter, but I'm also a fighter, so don't get any ideas. My legend precedes me, just like lightning precedes thunder. I am, the most interesting man in the world.

I don't always get a 45 on my mcat, but when I do I drink dos equis

the girls on this site cant be arrogant...ive seen the pre-med picture thread, mang.

You guys are not as good as you think you are. Most of you are not even close, you need a serious reality check, which reality will give you in the near future. Trust me, it will, and you will be humbled. And after you pick yourself off of the floor, and reflect, those of you who are able to reflect, it will be good for your character development.

Some of us are as good as we think we are. On a scale from 1 to 10, if the average person is a 5, is it too arrogant to be an 8 and know it? It still leaves you the room to be humble when you compare yourself to someone is a 9 or a 10.

I think I'm pretty smart/accomplished/personable/responsible, so I exude confidence. I don't, however, think I'm the best.

I'm sure you knew this thread was a joke anyway.

Saying this alone already makes the probability of you being a tool about 90% in my book.

lol.

_______

on a serious note, I think the moment you start saying "I'm better than you because..." is the moment you become arrogant.

Each person is unique (mama said).

No, but you do realize that I'm the bestest doctor in the universe right?

bleargh is my favorite.

On a different note, my boyfriend is an engineer. Together we are The Most Interesting Couple in the World. Sometimes our relationship feels a little unbalanced though. Maybe it's because hierarchically, he's more arrogant that I am.

Haha, my boyfriend is an engineer, too. He is more arrogant than I am, and I've put some thought into this. I think it's because with engineering, problems are more likely to have finite solutions. Whereas, with biology/medicine, the answer can easily be "we don't know; sometimes this just happens." For example, he was furious that his doctor couldn't give him an answer for the mysterious pain in his side. "This is UNACCEPTABLE!!" he said. He just couldn't wrap his head around the fact that there was no concrete solution. I don't think doctors or scientists can ever be as arrogant as others in certain fields because we know there is so much that we don't know.

I'm every poor girl's dream, every rich girl's pride, and every sissy's pin-up.

Come at me bro...

You on that phaggy time brah?

Zyzz is god...

Yeahhh you mad as **** cuzzz.

Are you aware that there are people in this world that have a severe medical condition which causes them to be that way? My mother for instance is one of those people. She is a truck driver that has bad knees and a bad back from driving the truck but you probably do not care about that case either. Oh well I am not one of those people I am 6'4" 245lbs and I exercise every day. I would love to see you say something like to my mother in front of me. Probably never happen though you are probably just an internet tough guy. I doubt very seriously you would say that to someones face. Just my thought. What do you think. Oh I am sorry you probably do not have a brain. I on the other hand will be happy to buy you a plane ticket to come here and see if you have the nerve to say that to someone I know.

lol wut?

The truth speaks. The typical pre-med is very arrogant because they don't know jack **** about what they are getting into. Most of the assume they will get into medical school with no problem, most of them assume they will graduate near the top of their medical school class and have an easy time getting one of the ROAD specialties and make mad money while having good hours, most assume they will drive fancy cars, most assume they will not be one of those students who graduates medical school with $200k of debt, and most assume they will be game changers when they become an attending. REALITY will smack HARD and life will beat them down so hard they will come crying to the SDN world about failing their first exam in their young life.

Why do so many people assume that pre-meds are naive little children with out of control egos? The pre-meds that ultimately end up applying to medical school are usually the ones with the most realistic expectations of what it is to be a doctor. Sure, there's the occasional gunner with a God complex, but even on SDN I'd say the majority of pre-meds in the application process are down-to-earth, intelligent individuals with a sense of humor and a solid understanding of what we are getting ourselves into.

Of course, this thread is an example of every extreme out there.

Intentionally so

I'm not talking about what it is like to be a doctor. I'm talking about overinflated egos. There is nothing wrong with having confidence and pride, but it is another to assume you will be the best of the best at the next level just because you were the best in the past.

There were some huge pre-med nut cases I had in my classes as a fellow student. One of them had a 4.0. The guy was smart, but he had the worst social skills I have ever seen a human being have. The guy wanted to become a world renowned oncologist. I flat out told him that it takes a lot more than memorizing page 345 of your organic chemistry book to make it to that level. End result of this guy? Never made it into medical school. He did horrible with his MCAT score and never applied (maybe he applied this year...I don't know sice I haven't talked to him in a few months). His ego got bruised when he saw a 28.

There was a girl in my glass that never talked about anything besides becoming a doctor when we were studying in groups, or in the halls (Small college). She got an A in all of her pre-med classes. Then she took some upper level biology classes (i.e., immunology) and got Bs and Cs. She didn't put the same effort into the upper level courses as she did the pre-reqs classes. End result? First year physician assistant student.

Another girl who never talked about anything besides becoming a doctor. Same academic results as the girl in the above paragraph. End result? Never took the MCAT. Too afraid of a poor score and crushing her chances of getting into medical school. End result? A recent status post shows her working as a lab tech making $25k and studying for the MCAT but can't remember nothing from o-chem. Now she is thinking of physician assistant schooling.

Another guy with great grades all through college. NEVER did any volunteer work. Went into pharmacy school. Only thing he wanted to do was be a doctor.

The above examples are perfect examples of the typical pre-medical student who dreams big but lacks the balls to keep striving to reach their goals. The cry baby girls didn't even try to get into medical school.

Wow. You know lots of people.

And for the topic, from my school I think the heirechy is (most arrogant to lease):

Engineers
Pre-Med
Pre-Other Professional fields
Math
Chemistry
Biology
Rest of Non-Science Majors/Science Majors I missed

I actually agree with you about engineers being more arrogant than pre-meds.

I can say this from personal experience, as I dated one of those. They're all pretty arrogant and pretentious, as well as neurotic. I swear half of them have ADD. (This is at least true in Washington, which could be due to the fact that Boeing is located up here and UW has a great engineering program. Everyone and his brother wants to be an engineer up here).

i dont think sdners are more arrogant than the average person. the really bad ones just have a ton of repressed arrogance from a lifetime of having nothing to be arrogant about. sdn is just an outlet for these kids to feel like rock stars for acing the mcat.

I assume you're talking about yourself and your 35 😉

Going to pharm school exemplifies lack of balls motivation? Hmmm...

I'd tend to agree that there are a lot of "physics/engineering or **** off" personalities in the field, but sometimes it's kind of hard to distinguish truth from arrogance. That is, what they're doing really is more intense in just about every sense than what most pre-meds go through. That certainly doesn't excuse the douchebags, but it's something to consider.
