How can DIT just read/reference First Aid for Step 1 and Step Up to USMLE Step 2 without those publishing companies come down on them legally? Do they have certain rights to them?

Just wondering. I did DIT for Step 1 but didn't do it for Step 2. I mean, honestly, all he does is use someone else's work and reads it and tries to explain it a little more.

I have no idea about whether or not anyone at DIT have paid for any rights to use FA or SUTS2, but it seems like it wouldn't make sense for either to make much of a fuss. Anyone who uses DIT will buy their books. Sure, if it's your book and you made the course you would have made more money, but they certainly arent losing anything by having a course use their text.

If FA had any kind of smart legal team, they would be pushing DIT for a % of their profits or charging a hefty licensing fee. Then again, I'm sure DIT does it's best to skirt the legal barrier by never showing any actual pages from FA.

Is it any different than a university using a specific textbook for a class and using that to teach?

interesting point. never thought of it that way.

It's not against copyright law to use a text for a class...
