Hello everyone,

I'm 20 years old, and am going to be applying to dental school this summer. I have just begun to think about my personal statement, and what exactly I would write in it. After reading some statements from other people, I realized that I simply do not have as much experience in life as many other people who are older than I am. I know I want to become a dentist, I have dental experience, the grades, and hopefully the DAT scores. But I have not joined the army, became a teacher in a poverish area...or cured cancer. I simply have not had enough time to do many of these things. So basically what I am asking is, do you think that dental schools will accept the older individual of two applicants with similar stats? I know this is based on opinion, but I'm trying to see how I can focus my statement such that it shows maturity regardless of age...or maybe i'm just thinking about this too much in the first place.

Nate,

I was 20 last summer when I applied. I also interviewed at some schools at 20. And I was accepted with a below avg gpa and avg DAT scores.

My point.... it's more about how bad you want it, not your age.

Thanks! I was looking for those pages. I'll be 20/21 when I start dental school, so I'm glad to know I'm not the only young one :]
