Please don't hurt me! I know, there are at least 1000000000 threads about this, and I'm the ass who posted a new one. Yeah, yeah, whatever. If you get good grades in the Honors College, do well on the MCAT, have medical experience, and do good research, does being in an Honors College help at all? Is the HC like the cherry stem on the cherry that tops the AMCAS-application sundae: not part of the sundae, but makes eating the cherry more fun and easier? Thanks!

You already answered your own question....do what you need to do well. If being part of the honors college has challenged you intellectually and has allowed you to improve your critical thinking capabilities and scholarly accomplishments, then yes that's a good thing.

As Aerus pointed out, being part of an honors college really means nothing in the grand scheme of the application process as far as your résumé is concerned... That said, if your experience in the honors program results in a more critically aware and present self, the experience will benefit you in other avenues of life that may in turn increase your competitiveness as an applicant. From my experience, this was very much the case.

At least at my university, the honors college was great because the courses allowed a higher percent of the class to get A's and they would even allow you to take final exams and turn in final projects well after the class was over (like at the end of Summer for a Spring final), so it wouldn't interfere with other finals. I highly recommend it for these reasons.

In non-HC classes, the curve only allowed a small percentage of A's and they would never let you take an exam late.
