Does anyone else just hate uneducated people who act as if they're knowledgeable

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I decided to check out our new "pre-med" club last night. I had gotten an email from one of my professors that the pre-med club president wanted me to come in and talk about prepping for medical school. I can't believe people actually put this crap down on applications as it's apparent anyone can be anything in these clubs.

The club president wanted to talk to me about the MCAT, schools I'm applying to, etc etc since I'm just about the only one there who has taken the MCAT with any sort of success.

First, a student asks me about acceptable GPAs and whatnot, and this girl (the president) has the gall to tell me I overdid it in college because she only has a 3.0x, and you only need a ~3.2 to be competitive. "Why overwork yourself to the point of stress" was her logic. Have fun in med school, kid.

Later on, after answering a question about how to study for the MCAT to another student, she interjects at the end saying that "I'm an exception to the study rule" and that a 28 is what we should all be shooting for to remain competitive. I politely disagreed with her, and then spoke to a few students after the club telling them how wrong that was.

As we're wrapping up the night, I'm casually talking about some schools I'm interested in, and this girl has the audacity to start laughing at me because Mayo is a sub-par school where I'dbe getting a sub-standard education in comparison to other schools. I was floored!

Needless to say, I walked away laughing as she's the one living in fantasy land with a 3.0x gpa and shooting for a <30 MCAT score. All this while hoping to attend Case Western  Sometimes people who have no idea what they're talking about, yet insist on talking, drive me absolutely insane. The saddest part is that she's going to put down "Pre-med Club President" on her app, and some nuts out there will be impressed by it.

Yea people like that do annoy me. What annoys me more though are people who are intelligent but show it off like the biggest snobs on the planet. Makes me want to punch them in the face.

Oh wait im sorry, thats you and the rest of sdn…..where are my manners? 🙄

Just because I'm better than you, doesn't mean you have to be upset about it.

You equate being "better" than someone as being more intelligent which is just wrong. The human psyche is far more complicated than just a machine that can absorb textbook material.

Success, "better", are all ambiguous terms. Some people have whats called a personality, and are more "successful" because of it. You can be the smartest kid in the world, but if you don't have the humility, the temperance, or the ability, to deal with other people, none of that will matter.

Why so sour, sourpuss?

Calm down, Nancy boy. I was making a joke. 👍

Anatomy exam tomorrow, taking out my stress on here.

Hit those flash cards up.

Haha.. I cannot believe that was taken as condescending. The people in this club are freshman and soph., of course I know more than them. That's not being condescending, that's common sense. Saying I'm being condescending is akin to saying a professor is condescending for teaching material they know more about. 👎

And for the rest of people commenting about my legitimacy, grow up.

No, honey, it's condescending. And it's hardly the first time you've posted something condescending here, so it's no surprise everyone picked up on it right away.

Secondly, get over yourself. You are not akin to a professor. You are 2 years older than those other people and you spend a lot of time on an internet message board. When you get a PhD in Applying to Medical School, then that ridiculous analogy MIGHT be valid. 🙄

And I still think you're full of it, but that's JMO.

Or when someone is starting med school, that analogy MIGHT be valid as well :meanie:

So based off that a professor to a student = senior to a freshmen. No that is not condescending at all. :meanie:

Your arrogance and ignorance is hilarious. Because you're a few years above them it means you're more knowledgable? That could easily be argued otherwise. I know people a few years above me in their PhD whom I'd be astonished if they made that statement to me. Also, that doesn't mean you're not condescending. It's the tone you use that makes you condescending, *******. I can at least admit that I'm like that on occasion with no shame, but I don't post threads about it. Especially one like this where you don't see what we all see.

Also, for added lols, I'm a few years above you. I'm more knowledgable. So stfu and stop arguing with me. I'm right, you're wrong. But that's because my years of experience trumps yours.

Question to the OP: Why would you even start bothering if people behave like you describe? If you consider yourself 'more knowledgeable' then use your frigging almighty knowledge to help them out, instead of making these ridiculous statements. I'm sure they'd appreciate your input. But posting this thread, and hoping others will agree with you and laugh out loud at your pre-med president, proves you're either an arrogant fool or a childish fool (perhaps even both?). What makes you even more arrogant and childish is stating that the people you describe are 'uneducated'. Dude, they're in college just like yourself, uneducated *****.

Am I the only one but does anyone else find it Shocking that pre-med president plans on attend Case Western but thinks Mayo is sub-par? I mean, she has heard of Case Western! but not about the awesomeness of Mayo. weird. For almost everyone I know, unless you already are a physician (or are applying right now to be one) or an engineering ... when people usually hear about Case Western, they assume it's a military school and nothing more.

If anything, that statement alone makes me question the validity of the story.

BUT MAYO ISN'T AFFILIATED WITH A UNIVERSITY!!!!! HOW COULD IT POSSIBLY BE GUD?! 😕😕😕

As a side note, when my MIL would talk about going to the Mayo reviews I first thought that she was going to the male review. I thought that she was kinky.

Let's all agree that, while the OP clearly went overboard in making this thread, all of us here would probably have been just as annoyed with the girl in his/her story.

I was not aware that I can brag about having taken classes that are considered "pre-med".

word. i lol@ all the posts saying that it's your responsibility to help her or whatever.

not that this girl is real since the OP is a humongous liar

LOL @ this.

Not to defend the OP's story or anything, but anyone who looks at the US news list of med schools will see Case Western in the top 20 and can easily do an internet search to discover what an amazing program it is. Mayo on the other hand does not participate in the rankings (and therefore does not appear in the top 20) which is why someone who is (extremely) uninformed might think that the school is somehow sub-par because of that.

great that's fantastic. You seem to be more knowledgeable than group of students. Is that what you wanted to hear? Was this a thread to bash on people who think they know things?

your tone is ridiculous, humble yourself. To me, you are those group of kids who think they know something.

I also question the validity of your stories, i think your lying.

Well, damn. I spent all that time behaving and respecting my peers only to go to military school.

Why would anyone use the USWNs rankings for med school? They rank primary care and research both having nearly nothing about the education students receive at those schools. I mean sure aim for the best but people should really learn to look stuff up themselves.

This thread is an epic dissappointment. I was sure I was wandering into a thread about someone from northeast Florida.

note: is from NE Florida. 😉

Yes -- but looking at the list and being like, wow, I want to go to Case Western because it is in the top 20, without knowing anything about it (minus the internet search and USNews) is a little weird. You usually fall in love with Case once you visit. The OP could be from Ohio though. Mainly I was just trying to make a joke based on my experience with Case Western and how the general public assumes the "Reserve" means the military reserve or something military like...

FWIW, I heard of Mayo long before I knew what Case Western was. Not saying one is better/worse, just proving that rankings don't correlate with popularity.

Yep, made up story, you guys got me! 👍
If you're not trolling you should not be proud. For one, you posted in a previous thread that you were an officer in the pre-med club.

In your original post you claim that this is your first contact with the club, then you proceed to mock it and anyone who might be involved in such an activity. Just based on this you lose all credibility. You might not be lying on THIS thread, but you're a liar, and therefor a waste of everybody's time.

While I do not particularly doubt that something like this happened to you, I think you, as the liar we have already established that you are, are manipulating the truth. I'm guessing that you are (badly) exaggerating the idiotic claims the president made and omitting the fact that your smugness, condescension and unlikeability directly resulted in an ideological confrontation for which she was ill-equipped.

Beyond that, the fact that so many people thought this could be nothing but a troll should tell you something about your personality. Even if the president was as *****ic as you make her out to be, you come off so arrogant as to seem like a caricature. If you're not a troll you should quiet yourself and, as has been suggested, learn some humility.

word. but incomplete without bloodcurdling ninny.

This reminds me of a spot I was put in recently.

I ran into this girl I hadn't seen since sophomore year, and she asked me how everything was going with the "whole med-school thing", I said good, told her which schools I was planning on applying to, which happens to include a few DO schools (ATSU-Arizona and AZCOM; since I'm from new mexico).

She immediately went off on me about how DO's cannot do anything and thats why shes becoming a ND (Naturopath) so that she can have full rights like a MD and do naturopathic surgery. 😱

I didn't even know what to say to that final statement, so I just said I had to go and left. Pre-meds in general (unless they are on SDN) are just not knowledgeable people.

I weep for you if you think SDN is a bastion of truth.

He kids, SDN is a bastion for truth and fortitude. I personally believe SDN is why Batman, Superman, etc decided to join and form the justice league.

Inside the secret headquarters of SDN you will find a generator powering the entire complex. That generator runs on pure, unfiltered Chuck Norris.
