Does being gay count as a URM in medicine?

Nope, I know that they adopt a lot. How horrible would that be to grow up having a Biological gay father? "Mommy, where is daddy?" "Oh, sorry son, he's left us and left with another man."

Ohhh, ok. For a second there I thought you were actually curious. Instead you're just a.... Well, everyone here knows what you are.

"I'm not racist, my best friend is black!"
Point is: You said I don't know any gay people, which was incorrect. It doesn't take "life experience" to know that a Physician should not cater his beliefs to accompany the mindset of homosexuals. I'm sure Christian Psychiatrists do their job just fine.

You actually missed the main point of my post -- my assertion that you don't know any gay people was just speculation, and I wonder how deep your relationship is with this person and if he knows what you actually think about his sexual orientation.

Do you think your beliefs are above criticism? That simply by saying something is a belief of yours, it is immune to backlash? Some people believe that vaccines cause autism. What if a doctor expressed that belief. Should I respect that opinion? Absolutely not. Because it would be bad for patients.

I think that anybody who thinks homosexuality is not a biological phenomenon is ignorant of the evidence. Such a fundamental misunderstanding of human sexuality is akin to a fundamental misunderstanding of human anatomy or physiology, especially if you are a primary care doc or a psychiatrist.

And Christian psychiatrist does not necessarily mean bigoted psychiatrist. Tons of Christians accept that homosexuality is not a choice, especially ones well-educated enough to be physicians. Millennials, as a generation, are also very accepting of this, even if they are religious.

Don't make any broad assumptions about someone you don't know buddy. One of my friends from Biology is gay and I get along perfectly fine with him.

So you know that friend is gay by birth, and he didn't choose to be attracted to the same sex!

Just like YOU as a person didn't choose to bang girls, it was a born thing 😀

You can ask your other 39 gay friends the same thing too!

I happen to know of a med student in exactly that situation. Are you going to tell her that it is horrible (aside from the fact that her mom was dumped... it happens to women who marry straight guys, too.)

Some gay men marry women. This might have been more common years ago than it is now but you do have to ask some very delicate questions when working up some patients because not everyone is monogamous and not everyone engages only in heterosexual relations.

Part of being in med school is to be educated about how to care for patients, including patients who are not like you in their behaviors. Try to keep an open mind.

You talk as if being gay has been proven to be a a biological phenomena. It hasn't been proven yet, neither do I think it will be, so quit talking like it has. I get the feeling that people equate the belief that sexuality as choice to hating homosexuals.

The only people who honestly believe sexuality is a choice are complete, utter embarrasments of society, haha. Thankfully, noone in this topic EVER thinks that sexuality is a choice(unless they never went to college or have a brain!), unless they want to get the **** laughed at them 😛

Of course it's a biological phenomenon. What is the alternative? Homosexuality and bisexuality are found in nature quite commonly.
