Does undergrad biostats fulfill the stats requirement that some med schools have?

you are in luck! it does fulfill the requirement.

Yea applied statistics is more than fine. I had applied statistics and no one ever gave me trouble. A couple of interviewers asked about it, and they were fine with it once I explained the course. Statistics given in the math department are often heavy on proofs and the like and can sometimes be less useful than applied statistics since they don't emphasize the applications.
