Does burgundy tend to be a female stethoscope color?

I am about to begin first year medical school and am trying to figure out what color to get. Do make students tend to stick with black and blue colors or if burgundy common as well?

Almost everyone has black. Just use whatever you want. No one will care

Don't be that guy/girl, just get black.

I have a black steth, but if you get burgundy then it'll probably be easier to spot, less likely to lose, maybe less likely to be stolen in the hospital, etc. I don't see any reason not to get burgundy if that's what you want. It really doesn't matter what color you get. Just get what you like best. 🙂

I'd recommend a Littman Cardio III. It's not what I have but I wish I got it instead.

Get a color you're happy with. That's literally all that matters.

I have a burgundy one! I'm a girl but loads of guys have them at my school too, its actually the most popular color at my school after black. I personally don't think it matters tbh, its still a pretty tame color so if you want it go for it! 🙂

No one cares about your stethoscope color. Unless you get pink (in which case you can just throw a breast cancer awareness sticker on it) our neon anything, no one cares at all.

Black is simply the default color, if I were to buy a new one, I would personally get a different color....since black is just so, boring!

It really doesn't matter. I have a super bright color (pretty sure I'm the only one in my year, if not my whole school, who has this color) because I love it. A few patients have commented that it was cute/matched some aspect of my outfit; no one else has noticed.

I would strongly suggest an unusual color such as lime green. Standing out is what will make you a successful doctor. Wear a bow-tie and fancy socks. Trust me - people *will* notice.

after they took your tuition money i'm assuming
That's my generic reply to any time a school claims to "give" me something, but mine actually lined up a private donor from the community. We're pretty rural so the school is a huge deal and everyone in the community is quite supportive

ooo that's awesome man

I have a black stethoscope. Any color ok, just be sure to get a good quality name tag on it with your last name as there are stethoscopes of every color in the hospital. One thing to consider is how color will look with your normal clothes/scrub color. Ie burgundy might not look the best against some blue shirts, but if you wear white shirt burgundy would be good.

Is it normal for students to buy stethoscope tags to clip on with name, or do some people choose to engrave if ordering online? I'm afraid of looking pretentious if I stick out hahah.

They've always come with the ones I've bought. I don't use them, most don't. Nothing pretentious about using it though

Wut???

Brb while I go buy a stethoscope to match every outfit.

Oh wait, brb while I return them all because I have to wear a white coat all day (except on Peds)

Not sure if serious. Hope not.

Don't consider this. If there are people out there judging me based on my stethoscope not matching my outfit...well, that's too bad. For the OP, get a color you like; when you leave it somewhere (which will happen), it makes it easy to call and ask the nurse if there's a {color} steth left around somewhere, or to find it without having to go up to each and every one you see and look at the tag.

@IB: If you have to borrow someone else's stethoscope, do you make sure it matches your outfit first?

What do you mean "don't be that guy"? People at my school have all kinds of different colors of stethoscopes and nobody gives a single sh|t. I would imagine this is probably the case at most schools. It's not like getting a colored stethoscope is some sort of statement, it just means I like another color better than black and enjoy being able to identify my stethoscope more readily when placed near others.

I meant don't be the person that is concerned that the color means anything or that anyone cares, and since OP already is, it'd be in best interest to just get black - worrying solved.

Get this one to let everyone know you are aware of today's most pressing social issues OP

LOL Smurfette - I don't really care about matching that much. I doubt anyone but me would think of that when choosing medical accessories. You're right. - No one would consciously notice and no one would ever judge you for it. If I liked a particular color would def choose it 🙂

Once you go black, you never go back...

Until it gets stolen, then you want the most neon, bright, clashing color you can find.

To the OP, I'm a dude, I'm never sick at sea, I've never knowingly been questions about my gender, and I rock a red (not a burgundy, but a full on red) Littmann Cardio III. If I could have found a neon pink stethoscope, I would be rocking that because no one would even think about stealing it.

I find it to be the opposite. The women at my program love all-black stethoscopes. Its pretty cool actually but not as professional as the classic silver and black.

I'm a guy and use a burgundy stethoscope. No one really cares or even notices these things unless your steth is like neon yellow or pink/rainbow.

I intentionally didn't get black because burgundy would be less likely to get accidentally picked up by someone or mixed up with other peoples stethoscopes. Plus, black just seemed boring to me. Get what you like.

Chocolate tubing with a copper finish is the way to go. Don't forget to let people know it is not simply "brown," but "chocolate."

Haha! Some of Littmann's options do sound delicious.

I want one of those cotton candy blue ones. 😍
