This always confused me, but Im now getting the bigger picture and I wanted to clarify this....

1.) Is Cynaosis just a broad term we use to describe low O2saturation...specifically, deoxy Hb > 5 g/dL with features such as "chocolate covered blood" and dusky skin discoloration? (i.e.- classically seen with methemoglobinemia but Im guessing pretty much anything that affects O2sats such as CO poisoning as well)

2.) On the other hand, I'm assuming cyanide poisoning doesn't affect the O2 content of the blood at all right since its mainly targeting intracellularly (complex IV of the ETC)?

Thanks.

You can have cyanosis from polycythemia. As I understand it cyanosis is just the symptom of having a bluish tint to the skin. I think that is the Hb measurement for it though. Less than 5 g/dL

Lol, thanks that was more detailed than I needed...I doubt things will be that complex on the real exam so I'll stick to the more pathognomic findings
