Hey guys,, just wanted to know if employers in general are selective about gpa's after graduation when looking for a job?? (do they ask for your pharm school grades or something)

Also before taking naplex, do u have to show diploma or grades from pharm school and undergraduate college?

Just wanted to know how they determine who eligible to take the boards.

my understanding is that all you need is the diploma. your gpa may come into play when looking for residencies but the majority of employers are not going to even ask about it.

When you graduate your school will fill out one sheet in the application(about 4 sheets total for the app) saying you graduated and that you completed xxx number of hours of rotation experience. they don't list your gpa, just that you graduated and covered all the required classes.

This is what the look at:

1) Do you have a degree and are licensed?
2) Are you alive?

What school you went to, what GPA you have, or how much you care about work, they don't care. IF you can make them money, they want you. Viva capitalism.

is the minimum a 2.0 or a 3.0 to graduate and get a pharmd degree?

I think most schools are around 2.3-ish.

Are you in pharmacy school or what??? No employers could give a rat's ass about your GPA. The only time GPA, does come into play, but even then not overwhelmingly is if you are applying for a residency. Yea you have to show your grades and diploma from pharmacy school before sitting for NAPLEX. Your school as soon as you are confirmed to have met all requirements will mail all your info to the board of pharmacy you tell them to mail it to. Once that is done, you register with the board, and they will get back to you once they have all your info and its verified. Once all that happens, then you can sit for NAPLEX and the Law exam.

However, potential employers won't ask you for either your NAPLEX score or for you GPA, aside from maybe curiosity. But it won't have effect on getting the job or not. Realize that working in the real world, your personality will come through a lot more. Like how well you get along with others, how do you manage in stressful situations, are you polite to customers, stuff like that. Good luck.

As I understand it, most employers, when deciding between multiple prospective employees, look at professional organization membership (ASP, NCPA, etc...) rather than GPA, though GPA can play a minor role in the decision.

It's all about hook-ups. My boss never asked about my gpa. She doesn't care, as long as I show up for work, do my job up to her expectations, then I'm golden. (I hope I exceed her expectations because she's awesome with my schedule) 👍

Most students who got accepted are LUCKY...if you talk to fellow friends, most pharmacist can't speak English and most are female who take ~year off from work because of maturnity leave (so shortage of pharmacist)..etc etc blah.....GPA does not matter...work experience matters most....I heard there was a student or two who got accepted into an accredited school in the east for Fall 2005 while ATTENDING another pharmacy school (namely HICP)...maybe ACPE should look into this. Bottomline, pharmacy school is all about making money (not just GPA). Don't forget, connections, you're right!

If you have a brand new topic, please make a new thread. Otherwise it just gets confusing for people to follow. Thanks!

^^^^ same.

I was never asked my GPA. I guess they thought it was good enough if you have that diploma.

The only time GPA might play a role is if you are applying for a residency. If you are trying to get a job at a regular community pharmacy or hospital, they don't care about your GPA. They care about the piece of paper which says doctor of pharmacy on it.

He** no. Unless you are applying for residency, no employer will give a rat's a** about your pharmacy grades. Your personality and how you get along with others and the culture of your workplace is much more important.

Nobody is ever gonna look at your undergrad grades for the rest of your life, unless you decide to reeducate yourself and wanna become a PA, lawyer or a doctor. All you need is a letter from your school to the Board of PHarmacy in your area that you have met all requirements for licensure and you are ready to set up exams.
