I have submitted my LORs yesterday, and they have been confirmed as delivered as of yesterday morning. However, none of the schools have verified that my file is complete. Is there a delay to when the schools actually receive them ?

How does the whole LOR part of the application work? I read each schools standards as to how many letters and of which kind, but I am confused. I have 6 LOR's, 3 from professors, 2 from MD physician's I shadowed, and 1 from a DO physician I shadowed. They were all sent to my pre-med advisor. I met with her and the pre-med committee which have prepared a committee letter for me. Now, for each school, does my pre-med advisor send a copy of the committee letter and a copy of each physician letter to each individual school? I am applying to 15 DO schools, and that seems like a lot of copies and such? Can anyone clarify this process for me?

The best and easiest thing for you to do is open up an interfolio.com account, and tell them to upload all the letters there. That way, you can designate which letter you want to be sent to which school. Also, if you don't get in this year and have to reapply, the letters will still be available to you on the site, rather than having to contact the advisor everytime.

Ask if your pre-med committee uses VirtualEvals. If they do, they can simply upload your pre-med packet (with all the LORs) and send them electronically to all schools that accept it. The few that don't will need to have it sent by mail.

This is where interfolio and virtualevals are really, really useful. I don't know about virtualevals as my school doesn't use it, but I used interfolio last year and thought it was worth it.

With interfolio, after you set up an account, you can either print out cover letters for your letter writers to mail with your letter to interfolio, or you can have them email their letters instead. Either way, you can see as soon as all the letters are received by interfolio (of course, you can't actually read the letters), and direct your letters from there. It's slick, trust me.

As far as your particular situation, you'll need to come up with a list of addresses of the schools (once you have the secondary app) and which ones require DO and/or MD recommendations in addition to your committee letter. Then you need to decide which letter or letters you want sent where. You may want Doctor A's letter to be sent to the school he attended, for example, but Doctor B's letter to be sent to the in-state school he's affiliated with. And, of course, you're probably going to want the DO letter to be sent to Osteopathic schools.

Yes, it's tedious, but if you have a pre-med advisor, you may as well make use of him/her instead of using interfolio...

Good luck.

It takes schools way longer than this to update your file. How long depends on the school. If it was delivered by interfolio and it was electronic, then it was immediately available to the school

Pardon me if this is a dumb question, but does anyone know if more than the required amount of letters can be sent to a respective school? I have 7 LOR - 2 MD, 3 science profs, 1 liberal arts prof, 1 employer.

Each of the above individuals I have known for 3-10 years and I am confident that each letter would only strengthen my application.

Thanks!

Yes, you can do this.
