I am planning to take physics for life science 2 (4 credits) in summer. My school advisor did not recommended me to take any science course in summer because it looks that student did not spend sufficient amount of time to master the content . Is it true?

No. I doubt that ADCOMS have enough time to look at each applicant's app and see when science courses are taken. This is just silly

Maybe. However, many med students before you have gotten into medical school despite having taken science courses during the summer, including me. Just do well in the course as you would in any other, and make sure you learn the material so that MCAT prep is as easy as possible.

I think they do when you are pre selected for interview.....

I have nt seen much of student taking science courses in summer...

Adcoms have a lot of stuff to read, and I really don't think they will nitpick on when a specific course will be taken. If you do well (get an A) it doesn't matter

I'm pretty sure that's completely untrue. Plenty of people take summer classes (pre reqs or not) and I've never once heard anything about such issues. Your mcat should show that you had enough time to "master the content."

I guess by that logic people who go to schools on quarter systems are screwed because they'll never be able to master content.

Dude if you make an A in the summer, it means you spent a lot of time and mastered the course.

I don't understand why would advisor say that ... I mean my university have med school. I assume that most of the advisors get knowledge through med school ADCOMS

No, your adviser is nuts. Most respectable institutions of higher learning will demand the same knowledge in the summer as the semester. Besides, it all comes down to how will you do on the MCAT.

Summer courses cover the same amount of content. Hence why the amount of time you have to spend in class each week during summer science courses could be regarded as inhumane treatment. Summer courses do tend have easier tests than the full length semester versions, but that's only because the tests have to be easier to compensate for the fact that you're expected to learn the same amount of material in a quarter of the time.

I'd be surprised if adcoms viewed them negatively. Usually summer science courses are discouraged because the time requirements are so intense that it's much harder for students to do well.

I took the gen chems in the summer. Never came up once. Dont worry!

Lol some premed advisors say the weirdest things. Its completely fine to take it over the summer as long as it's taken at your undergrad.. and not a community college. I was actually warned not to take prereq classes over the summer cuz it's a lot more intense and fast paced. Well, I took two of my prereqs over the summer.. and going to a good med school this fall. No worries OP.

I was thinking about taking gen chem 2 over the summer a year ago, but my pre-med advisor told me not to. She said that she worried that I would not be able to build a great foundation of chemistry in that 5 weeks time frame, so I just took some GE classes instead. I do know some people who took it over the summer and they were fine. As long as you are able to keep up and master the material, I would just say to go for it.

You would assume wrong. Pre-med advisers have a very bad habit of being more poorly informed of the process and requirements of getting into med school than many pre-med students. Obviously there is huge range in quality of advisers, but there are plenty of flat out wrong advisers out there that their word should NOT be taken as fact without confirming what they say on here, or with multiple med school admissions offices. I, too, took several pre reqs during summer sessions without any issues.
