If your motives for pursuing pharmacy are to work toward a career as a PharmD in industry? I've had a lot of research experience, and I would love to pursue a PharmD/Masters in Clinical Research as is offered at UCSF, but I've heard from someone on this forum that if you say you're interested in research they wonder why you didn't just pursue the PhD in Pharmacology. I don't want to JUST do research, and as a PharmD I would want to work toward developing innovative treatments, and maybe eventually switch over to working in a hospital pharmacy.

Whew, that was kind of wordy.. any thoughts?

Um.. it sounds like you already answered your own question, no?
People have different reasons as for why they wanna go into the field. In your case, just elaborate more on your reasonings in your application and/or interview, you'll be fine. That might actually give you some edge over the other applicants IMO.

Agreed.

The "why not PhD"? will inevitably come up so make sure you can articulate why you want a PharmD rather than a PhD.

you need to focus on different aspects of pharmacy during the interview to show that you know a lot about the field. so saying that you're interested in research while wanting to provide to the community would help.

Be ready to convey those ideas on your essays and your interviews. I ran into a similar situation at interviews where the admissions comm really asked about what I knew about corporate/policy/govt type pharmacy careers.
