1. I think the KAPLAN material is a lot harder than these AAMC material that I have been working with. One of my course instructors told the class that we should focus mainly on using the KAP stuff(i.e topical tests, subject tests), and don't really work on the AAMC material until the final week before the MCAT (use them as confidene boosters he put it).THats what he did and he made a 37. So does everybody agree???

2. In verbal, I am struggling with some of these humanities passages, you know the types that start with ...."The ancient philosophies of the Greeks...." etc. The more "real world" passages as I like to call them, those that deal with political, business/economical, or science related passages I have no problem with. Plus the philosophical passages are more abstract and you tend to get lost in them as well..................so how do ppl who are good with thse types of passages handle them??

I've heard the same thing... Sorta... Basically, the diagnostic from Kaplan is really hard and in turn is suppose to inspire the student to get on the ball and get prepared. As for the Topical tests, I noticed that the Physics ones are really hard and that the MCAT physics problems are no where near as complicated as the subject/topical questions.

BTW, Kaplan wants teachers that are in the 90th%tile which is a 34 or so+. My teacher scored a 41 and worked tons of tests.

The topical tests ARE harder, I think, but isn't that what you'd want? The worst thing would be to feel really confident about the material and then find the MCAT is five times harder than you were expecting.

As for philosophical passages, try to understand what the philosophies are. Can you reference one (I'm in Kaplan's course, so I've got access to all the stuff) and I'll try to explain?

All of their topical tests are harder, IMO. The practice full-lengths were more indicative of the difficulty of the real deal. I still felt that the physical science portion of the real MCAT was WAY WAY easier than any of kaplan's full lengths.

Yes i think they try to put the FEAR into you. Esp when one of my teachers unofficially told me that most people score 3-6 points higher on the real MCAT.
