so as i was typing this, the similar threads section came up and it sort of answered my question but I'm just asking to make sure. I'm going to be at orange coast college and hoping to transfer into UCLA. but could i pick a major that has a high transfer rate such as anthropology which has a 62% acceptance rate and then once if i get into UCLA, end up taking the pre-req classes for dental? or is that a bad idea? i really just want to get out of OCC and have the feeling of being at UCLA. so basically is this something i could do?

i would try to do a psychology major but it only has a 20% transfer rate.

There is no such thing as a major in CC.

Hi, California community colleges have an agreement with the UC system that you are guaranteed transferring. Also, depending on the major that you are declaring, you will not be allowed to switch it at UCLA. This is to prevent students from out-smarting the system. Also, if you want to complete your pre-reqs for dental school, I advise you to major in the sciences. Depending on the major, classes are first restricted to the major so that they can complete their degree requirements. Those students are first given priority above non-majors that are not related to the sciences.

yeah but thats for every UC except UCLA and berkley. but a psychology major has science classes in it so I'm thinking of going in as a psychology major then once i complete that at UCLA I would end up taking the dental classes

Like complete coursed at the UC extension? My friend got rejected from other UCs and had a choice between Berkeley and UCLA when he transferred. So, I think it applies to UCLA and Berkeley, too.

Hi,

I went to CC and also transferred to community college. I would highly recommend choosing a major in which you are able to take lots of upper division science classes such as: Physiological Sciences, Neuroscience, Biology, MCDB, or MIMG. I was a Psychobiology majors and a lot of dental schools told me that because I took most of my pre-reqs at community, they wanted to see me take a lot of upper division science classes at my 4 year which I couldn't because of the major I chose. Definitely makes a difference!
