I wasn't sure if they did or not, based on state of residency or race, since it's a HBC. I'm part (Asian) Korean and part black, and I put both ethnicities on my AMCAS...though I haven't been verified (I submitted really late), maybe they wait for verification?

umm i'm not sure i really understand your question..
but i'm indian (southasian if you want to be technical) from california and i interviewed there about a month ago..

Screen out??
Well, everyone gets a secondary application and then I guess they do screen out as it is a predominitely African -American/minority medical school. If your stats are good I do not know why they would "screen you out", but you did apply really late, but so did I!!

It is illegal for any school (or any other institution for that matter) to screen someone out of an admissions process based on race. Although Meharry is a recognized HBCU does not mean that you have an automatic invite because you have a fraction of African descent in your genetic make-up or an automatic rejection because the closest you came to being black was watching Everybody Hates Chris. If you fall within or above the average of matriculated students in MCAT, GPA, EC's, and LOR's (things that consitute the bulk of your application and are primarily considered in the entire process) you may have an invitation of an interview extended to you. Prior to that though, you will receive a secondary because they don't pre-screen. Good Luck in the process and I hope you get verified soon.:luck: :luck:

If you're asian indian with a 2.8 and 23 (blah), do you stand any chance at meharry? what if you really want to work with underserved communities?

As the person mentioned above, they don't care what race you are. It is an historically black college and university and cannot discriminate. You have to be competitive to get in.

Don't expect to get in on mediocre stat's. Meharry does take individuals with lower stat's but they have to have other things to show for it. A 23 is low and they will probably suggest that you take it again. A 2.8 is boderline G.P.A but certainly if you have EC's and lots of experience then you have a lot to offer. You must show a commitment to serve the underserved in your case because your stat's are on the lower side.

Also, they are pretty good at figuring out if you want to got there. They put a great deal of emphasis on that point. They want people who genuinely want to go to Meharry.

Good luck with everything

Perhaps the OP is asking if Meharry screens applicants prior to releasing their secondary, not if they screen period. All students who indicate Meharry on their AMCAS application will receive a secondary. Whether or not you receive an interview/acceptance will of course depend on if you're a competitive applicant or not.
:luck:

last year, i got an interview with a 28 mcat, but this year I heard nothing from them with a 34 mcat. my commitment for the underserved is everywhere in my P.S, and pretty much nothing has changed other than my MCAT...but no interview....makes me wonder. I am pretty sure last year my interviews went average-good, so i dont think they are not inviting me for that reason. 🙂

Meharry, like other schools that we SDN-ers often label as a "safety" school, also probaby assumes that extremely competitive applicants will not seriously consider them. They probably miss out on great applicants based on this assumption but they've got to narrow down their applicant pool some way...
🙂
