I would say "name" will only help if you are trying to get a job within the same city as that "name" program. Most people who do their residency in City X will end up practicing in City X. And "name" will help because there will already be people within that practice who went to the same program as you did, and they will thus show you favoritism.
It is not that they think programs in other cities are bad, but they will be more familiar with their program, the people within it, and thus, will know what they are getting when they hire you.
As far as getting more money from a big "name" program; not going to happen. In the real world, the bottom line is more important than a "name." Remember, this is a job, the practice will need people who produce, not just have come from a great "name" program.
