I'm completing a secondary at University of Rochester and came across the following question:

If a member of your immediate family (parent, grandparent, spouse, or sibling) is a graduate of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, please check here and provide information below.
(Fill in) First Name, Last Name, Relationship, Graduate Year, Degree Received

My grandfather was a resident at Rochester (ages ago), but it looks like they're only asking about connections to the school of medicine. There is also a question about faculty or staff connections, but I'm not sure if that would count either.

So, should I leave my grandfather out?

Thank you!

I would say that should count but what do I know

What part of graduate is unclear?
Yes

Thanks all. I think I'll leave it out because I don't want to come across as "gaming." Maybe I'll have another chance to mention it at an II (fingers crossed!).

The medical school and the various residency programs function independent of one another (i.e., the residencies aren't educational programs within the School of Medicine). For that reason, a former resident doesn't count as an alumnus of the medical school. The med school could look through its archives all day and wouldn't find any records relating to your grandfather. Similarly, house staff (residents) aren't the kind of staff the application's asking about; rather, it's asking about non-trainee employees.
