Does residency exmption forms normally get approved?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Sorry, having an aunt in Northern Nevada is not gonna work for you. UNR has enough applicants to be picky. No more than 7 OOS students per class. What state are you from? Here's a link to a previous thread on this topic and my response. PM me if you need more details.

"It really depends where you're from in CA. For UNR Med, if you're from one of the CA counties that borders Northern Nevada (Placer, Eldorado, Lassen, Sierra, Nevada, etc.) then you've got a real chance.

Second to this would be if you were from very rural counties in CA and you have a STRONG tie to NV can play that card heavily (Shasta, Amador, Eureka, Plumas, Butte, Mono, etc). Strong ties include: You've been working in Northern Nevada for over the past year, your husband/wife lives in Northern Nevada or is already a student at UNR Med, and maybe something else too but these must be legit uber strong ties.

After these two categories you're pretty much just a regular OOS applicant and you're unlikely to gain admission no matter how rad you look on paper. Don't waste your money."

so they won't approve the exemption form? btw not a regular applican't got a lot going on and an immigrant from a rural area

Like I was saying in the other thread, you may be really rad on paper, but if your only tie to the area is that your aunt lives in Northern Nevada, then no, that is not enough to be counted as an in state applicant and be granted the exemption. It's just not a significant enough tie. Exemptions are given to people who have lived in Northern Nevada for some time, are married to somebody in the area, etc.

I mean, you can give it a shot and submit the form since it seems like you've already applied. Just realize that there's plenty of qualified applicants who they will admit before you simply because they grew up in Nevada. Even if you're a rockstar, people from NN with lower stats will get in before you.

I'll ask again: What state are you from? This makes a difference.

I'd recommend you check out this page. Scroll down to Residency, MCAT score, and GPA requirements. It breaks down all the ways one can be counted as in-state.

I wish I knew more to give you a better answer, but I'd assume for now take it as a good sign! Everyone gets the casper reminder emails. Stay optimistic and just keep checking off the to do list as things come up.
