Does the mcat really have more genetics now?

So I have asked various people (through PMs and some personal contacts) whether there really is more genetics on the MCAT now. I read some of the discussions on the "_/_/2010 mcat club" threads and I really do feel like the MCAT is now more genetics heavy. 😱 But I asked someone who took the test last year and they said that their test was ochem heavy and didn't have much genetics😕 is this because last year there was still some kind of transition going on...?

All I've read from this year's threads is that it's basically all genetics. If that is true, I would be in heaven😍

That's what I hear, but with 7 passages and only 52 questions the percentage can vary widely from exam to exam.

hmm yeah i figured that too, but a lot of this year's threads said that most of it was genetics...so I got curious 🙂

haha actually i'd love that too....as long as physiology is kept at a minimum, i'll still be in heaven 😀 (I know not many people will agree with me here >_<)

I wouldn't be suprised if AAMC decided to change things up again and increase the number of Orgo passages after reading threads like this, lol. After all SDN did receive warnings from AAMC regarding students posting MCAT specifics. So they definitely know this forum exists and they probably read it too to get a sense of what tricks they could throw at future MCAT test takers.

that's okay, you are forgiven😛

so i guess even here...no one is sure...darn!!!

I'm taking it 8/13 so I will let you know the breakdown of genetics/orgo/other(micro,physio...) there is. To be honest, I don't like any of those stupid passages from the old AAMCs, but physio is least of the worst.

^ that's what some people say while others say something totally opposite. I guess I should just take the exam and see..sigh

I did surprisingly well in my genetics class so it would be awesome if there were more genetics passages. XD

On the other hand, orgo would suck

Everyone seems to be saying that there's more genetics, but I don't see it to be honest. Any genetics that IS tested doesn't go beyond what's taught in standard bio. Taking genetics was a huge waste of time.

I disagree. I had a Mendelian genetics passage on mine that was more complex than anything I saw in my Bio class or EK prep. Not sure how much specifics I'm allowed to discuss, so I'll leave it at that. But I would agree that it doesn't warrant taking a Genetics class just for the purpose of MCAT prep.

Edit: Then again, in retrospect, that may have been the 'experimental passage' for my test. lol
