Does undergrad research w/ stipend count as employment?

So I'm applying for lab research position after college. The employment application asks for Employment History and previous salaries. Does 2 years of unpaid research (although I received summer stipends) as an undergrad technically count as employment?

I personally wouldn't consider them employment, but others may disagree

you can def count the 2 summers as paid employment. you got $ for a service you provided.
