Hi all. I can't seem to find any kind of clear answer about this! Assuming I'm not going for a tough residency (OMFS/peds/ortho) does your GPA from undergraduate matter? Here's why I ask. I received an F in my final semester in my senior thesis course because a suicide of a close friend basically kept me from doing my thesis defense. I was obviously a total mess and remained that way for a few months. By the time I was able to really function again, I was starting dental school and couldn't do anything about the grade. My dental school knows and is cool with it - it was for an extra humanities major, not my biochemistry major. My overall college GPA is still around a 3.5.
The most I can possibly see myself doing is perio, but in all likelihood I'll just want to do a GPR, Am I completely screwed? Will they see the bottom line GPA and not care about the rest? Or do they even bother looking at your undergrad GPA if your dental GPA is fine?
Hope you can calm me down a bit.
