Does WashU send out waitlists, or do they just neglect to tell you anything?

Anyone else still waiting to hear from WashU post-interview? I interviewed back in December and haven't heard squat. I got that holiday card in the mail saying to be patient, but still...

Has anybody gotten a waitlist? I wonder if not hearing from them is the same as a waitlist since I know people are getting acceptances from them these days.

I interviewed in November and haven't heard anything. I am kinda surprised at that, but maybe that does mean waitlist/rejection! I know they are kinda irregular about acceptances, though. When was the last time you heard people being accepted?

I've read here and on interviewfeedback.com that the committee met on Dec. 20 and people heard shortly afterward. I also read somewhere that the next round of acceptances will go out on Jan. 20. That's a Sunday though, so I don't think that's accurate.

I usually don't put too much faith into the supposed committee meetings. I know Wash U said that they don't publish their committee dates or tell any students, and they often hear about them and are usually wrong. Besides, just because the committee meets does not mean your application has been looked--hell, at my state school, some people I interviewed with found out within a couple weeks if they were accepted/waitlisted/rejected--2 months later, me (and others) are still waiting to be reviewed. It may depend whether your person could make it, how many apps they went through, etc. Or maybe that is just what I tell myself to make myself feel better!

Straight from the Dean's mouth, the committee will be meeting tomorrow. According to him, they just reveiw all the applicants that weren't accepted or rejected (approximately 130 as of last Friday). Tomorrow they will accept only 12. The rest will also be held over until committee meeting. They accept a total of about 250 people for a class of 120. After that, the rest are put on a "wait list". Nobody is accepted (although they keep reveiwing applications). This is not really a wait list in which they are ranked or anything, they just send you a letter asking whether you still want to be considered. After May 15 (when some people have rejected them), they start accepting again until the spots are full. He said that during this period, they will keep bugging you with letters every few weeks, asking you whether you still want to be considered, until the class is full. Hope that helps.

warpath, do you know if they accept 12 each time?

Thanks for the info, btw, it was helpful to know. A little nerve-wracking though...

Thanks for the info, Warpath. Only 12 people, huh? So I'm pretty sure the last meeting was Thursday, Dec 20 and this next one is Thursday, Jan 17. Looks like they meet about once a month every Thursday. It's like playing the lottery every month.

I think their November meeting was on the 19th, although I could be wrong. If so, that might throw off the Thursday thing, although they might have met earlier that week because of Thanksgiving and such.

Alternatively, I could be completely wrong about everything...

Whoops, checked again. November 29, sorry. So the Thursday thing does fit. I guess it's every 3-4 weeks?

If you interviewed late in November, you're probably not going to hear back until the end of January. Admissions committees take the same month off for the holidays that students do, so they haven't begun to meet again until last week. Keep your shorts on.

They met and made decisions. If you call Monday, you should know whether you got in yet or not. Good luck!

So was Jan 17 the VERY last committee meeting or will there be more?

Does anyone know when the next WashU committee meeting will be?

They haven't finished with committee meetings yet since they are still doing interviews. I would guess that the next one would probably be 2/21 or so (just to keep it on a Thursday).

The adcom is meeting next Thurs. and will decide on the last 50 spots (out of 250 acceptances). Then they will move into waitlist territory.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Does that mean that anyone interviewing after next Thursday can only be rejected or waitlisted?

When you say "next Thursday," you mean the Thursday after this Thursday, right? So Feb 14?

Where do you guys get all this information?

It sounds like a load of BS to me...Take everything you hear with a grain of salt my fellow SDNers

:p

When I interviewed at WashU yesterday, they told us that they had only filled about half the class, so it sounds like they have plenty of spots left. :)

Hey guys,

I interviewed at WashU Feb 1st and they said the adcom meets every 2 weeks on Thursdays and that on Jan 31st, the last meeting, they had about 210 acceptances. So this coming thursday 2/14...they will probably issue the last 40.

Good luck,
Javi

So in other words, if I don't have an interview yet (they've had my application since Oct!!) I shouldn't even bother thinking about them anymore?

<img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

I was there on wed, and they didnt say anything about how many people theyve accepted. Is it half or 210, thats a big difference. Oh well, whatever, knowing the answer to that question wont help me get in.

Hey man, I ain't BSing you guys...Scooby, how can you doubt the LizardKing (aka Pot Smoker, remember?)

I was there when the admissions dude said that 200-210 positions were about filled, and Feb. 14 is when they meet again to decide the remaining 40 spots. HOWEVER, this is probably tentative...maybe some spots will be left open.

The thread that lists the last days schools are interviewing says that WashU interviews until March. Why would they interview until March if they're going to round out their acceptances on February 14? One of these doesn't sound right. And what's this about them meeting every 2 weeks? I thought it was once a month. Somebody want to enlighten us?

Hi. I interviewed at Wash U in early January. At that point, one of the assist. deans said that we'd hear in four to six weeks.

Then I received a letter from Dodson (it was a form letter, but communication nevertheless). He specifically said that despite what others may have told us, it could be as late as April 15 before we hear anything positive or negative. He said to ignore what we might have heard during interview day, because it was wrong information.

My bad!

Since that time though, the committee met at least twice and gave out acceptances. I read somewhere that some guy actually got his acceptance and that letter to not expect to hear anything on the same day! I don't think that letter means much.

thanks for all the information - you guys really help make this process a lot less stressful...

So in these monthly or bi-weekly meetings... do they review every single application they have still pending a decision? That seems like a lot. There's gotta be at least one or two hundred apps to go over. On the other hand, isn't their committee really huge?

When they reveiwed mine (Jan 17), they were reveiwing 130 applications in total and accepted only 12.

I know their first committee meeting was at the end of Nov... if they only accept 12 ppl each time, and the committee only meets twice a month, then is it possible they've only sent out 72 offers so far? (wishful thinking, i know...)

I jsut interviewed there yesterday, and the rumor is true. Tthey only have 50 spots available on the acceptance list, they are reviewing applicants today. Anyone interviewed before Feb.13 might be reviewed since they had made the agenda for the Feb 14th meeting on the 12th. I was told by the assistant Dean. Sorry people, looks like everyone, myself included who interviewed after Feb 12th is in waitlist territory.

I understand that they only have 50 spaces left. But if they only accepted 12 in one of the meetings, why would we assume that they are going to accept 50 in this one? That seems like faulty logic.

Okay, so here I am in my room hoping for WashU to call. Oh my god, my phone rings! "Please, please, please be WashU!!!"

I pick up my phone and hear, "This is ______ from AT&T. Would you be interested in changing long distance services?"

Grrr.

I had 3 false alarms today.

I thought it was pretty uncommon for WashU to call... Am I wrong here?

omg...i got a phone call from somewhere long distance (my Caller ID doesn't say exactly what number) this afternoon when I wasn't home. I'm hoping it's WashU and they'll try back again. It's probably a stretch but it's a lot better than thinking about a rejection!

Is anyone else really edgy about not getting a phone call about an acceptance? If the rumors are correct, then WashU just gave out the last of their acceptances. This means if we don't get in now, we're getting waitlisted/rejected.

I really don't want to call and ask them over the phone, but the mail at my dorm is ridiculously slow and unreliable. I've gotten other people's mail twice now in the past week.

It might just be the interviewers choice whether they call you about an acceptance. Mine told me that she would call (so that silent answering machine is bad news) but that might not be true for yours. So heads up and hope for the big package in the mail!

Hey--I'd call the admissions office--it worked for me.

I posted elsewhere about this, but they told me over the phone that I got in!

I never got a call from them.

You might want to talk to Karen in the front office. She's the one that told me.

Good Luck everyone!

(Go Bears, congrats on Columbia! I read on another thread that you got the Big Package yesterday! I interviewed there, too, but haven't received anything... But right now, I'm just happy about WashU... :p )

Uh, no, that Columbia acceptance wasn't me. I think that person has a similar login to mine. I'm still waiting by my defunct mailbox for any news from Columbia... and WashU.

I wonder who's supposed to contact me if I hypothetically got in. My interviewer is on the regional subcommittee, but not in the big committee that actually makes the decisions. I wonder if they work this Monday (if I decide to call). Hmm. Thanks for the info though. Congrats on your acceptance, vkrn.

I decided to call WashU after all. I got in! They said they don't always call people about acceptances. Well, WashU is my top choice, so I'll pretty much be in St. Louis next year. Woohoo!

Nah, I'd love to go there, but I interviewed on 2/6, and theyve already mailed most of the acceptances, so I think I dont have much of a chance. I just checked out the cost of living while I was there.

Hey, gobears, congrats! (Yeah, the other person was "Gobears go". Sorry about the mix-up.)

I am 100% there at Wash U, barring some freaky occurence. So I guess we will be slurping down those frozen custards with our classmates!

I am SOOOO excited!!!!!! Words cannot express...

PM me if you want to swap thoughts about our favorite school. I'll be travelling there during the second week of March, just to check out the city again.

GOOD LUCK to everyone out there who wants WashU! I'm sure I speak for gobears too--we're rooting for you!

Thanks vkrn. Yeah, I'm definitely excited.
