I've heard that pass rates vary significantly across test centers. Is this there any truth in this?
Is there any testing center that's considered the best/worst?

Or does it not matter at all?

I am pretty sure this is just a rumor...I doubt that it varies "significantly" across test centers. If someone fails at one site and passes at a different site, its probably because they are more prepared the second time around NOT because of the test center itself. If a certain site had lower passing rates, I am sure that something would have been done about it by now, considering these 5 centers have been around for so long. From what I heard, the SPs are well trained and travel to different sites. Don't stress about the center - just take it where its most convenient.

Ok, thanks. Sounds true.

If someone has different thoughts, please do post.

I don't know why there are so many rumors flying around about how the USMLE (step 1 or 2) is easier at certain times of the year, or in certain test centers, or if you wear a certain color bra.

Don't believe these rumors. They're not true.

So i agree that most rumors are probably just that. But old wives tales developed because there was some truth to it.

The rumor is Houston is Easy (its the south, so everything is easy), LA is Hard (wannabe actors). When I chose, I chose based on proximity. Of course, it made my life easier that the rumor went with my proximity choice.

I wouldn't put TOO much stock in the rumor, but if you have a choice... go with the rumor, just in case. For one, if money or travel isnt a burden, why risk it? For two, if you go to the "easy" place, you will have no excuse for failing, meaning that it was your ability, not some external factor, that caused you to fail. Taking responsibility for it will help you invest in studying for the next time.

you wont fail. This exam is ******ed easy. RE-tar-DEAD
