Hi all,
I am an MS4 and would like to know anything as to how an internist can receive training to do some of the derm procedures (like laser hair removal, skin peels, etc)-- is it part of residency training, and if so, which programs emphasize this? Also, it you go to a program that does not train you in these procedures, how does one get training to do them safely?

You can receive additional training by doing Derm electives during your IM training or by hooking up with a dermatologist who's willing to work with you. However, the problem may become reimbursement from insurance companies. Many times if you're not approved to do such procedures by insurance then you're not going to get reimbursed. If your patient pays out of pocket then that's not an issue, but this is unlikely. Also, you'll need to have malpractice insurance to cover what you're doing, which you may or may not be able to get. If you really want to do derm work, then do a derm residency...
