ok so how many of u actually do it? u know sneak food in the pharmacy:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Haha seriously? You know, I always had this preconceived notion that by the time we graduated and started working professionally, we wouldn't be into that stuff but it's comforting that we can actually .. ya know, goof off XD.

I thought that this thread was going to be about true life Grey's Anatomy stories at the pharmacy. Does anybody have any of those?

yeah me too - I've read the title and with my twisted mind I immediately thought I was going to read some kind of amusing adventure from the life of pharmpills. Ah, I am soooooo disappointed.😳

Right. Some valium and viagra would have definitely been involved too.

there's nothing wrong with sneaking food into the pharmacy where I worked. In fact we did it all the time. We'd bring pizza, cookies, cakes, sodas, chips, you name it. Even at the hospital where I used to volunteer at had a lot of food in the main pharmacy.

we don't take breaks, so we always eat lunch or dinner in the pharmacy...no sneaking, it's just what we do. we gotta eat sometime and since we don't take breaks, we just grab a bite in the back when it's slow.

Ditto with the Grey's Anatomy thing...come on people, someone out there has to have some kind of crazy story! With a thread title like this eventually some 'lucky' pharm student or pharm student to be will step forward and implicate him or herself...

As for the food thing...I have one of those managers who is a "nazi"...no food or drink (other than water) in our pharmacy. The other pharmacists secretly let us have food and drink in the back area when he is gone. I love when he's gone!

:laugh::laugh: none of that. although the title was meant to make u think that bruhahah.

Don't forget: what is glorified on TV is often grounds for firing, in addition to indecent public exposure charges.

my pharmacy is like a buffet on a daily basis...I love it!!!

Mine too-- where I work now, we bring each other drinks, I've baked cookies, other techs have brought in donuts, fruit or sandwiches. We once ordered pizza delivery to the pharmacy. That was a great time. 😀

yeah..our pharmacy manager doesn't let us sneak in stuff but when she's gone it's all fun and games!

this guy's taking the title seriously 🙂:laugh:

Sounds like my work! We actually have an entire big fridge which was supposed to be used for medicines but instead we use a mini-fridge for that and keep our food in the big fridge/freezer! Haha. We also have an entire cabinet with a bunch of snacks: chips, cookies, chocolate...And since we work in a grocery store, we are taunted by the smell of freshly baked cookies from the bakery (right next to us!). One time we got a whole freshly baked pie and ice cream to share...mmmm. We have got to be the un-healthiest pharmacy staff in America! Can we say heart attack waiting to happen? 😛

I guess there's nothing wrong with a few crumbs in the customers' pills. 😀

You guys are lucky - I work at the research lab and the only time I ever tried to drink there in the non-scientific area- not even eat- I got a 20 minute lecture/yelling about me poisoning myself. 😳

Unless they have a food allergy and it gets traced back to uncleanly measures in filling Rxs.

Can't you just see the 20/20 report now? Gets me fired up just thinking about it.

We're allowed/expected to eat in the pharmacy, no sneaking necessary. We are just supposed to do it by the back counters and not let the customers see us eat, but only the manager is strict about that. The pharmacists are also fine with letting me study if I've taken care of everything else first (though usually I feel guilty studying because there is always *something* to mop, dust, file, etc). I would never bring a magazine or PSP or anything though.

u have to mop, that sucks. i heard the pharmacy gets a big fine if some random check by district or someone finds food in the fridge lol.

woohoo 1000+ views alot of perverted future pharmacist :laugh::laugh:

We used to have a separate fridge just for food, but it broke a month or two ago. Now I can't keep a half case of Cherry Coke Zero in the fridge 🙁

I mostly work in the IV room in the hospital pharmacy. Needless to say we don't sneak in food, but we all have a cup of coffee waiting for us near the computer or in the break room.

A tech where I work is given an hr break, which is mandatory. So, i just go out an eat. Feels good to get away from the job or else I'll be helping out and doing something.

I had no idea there was not supposed to be food in the pharmacy...lol We have 3 fridges one full of food and drinks we order lunch everyday which is delivered to the pharmacy and the other techs always bake cookies and snacks all the time... when i get out of school and goto work I can eat like its a buffet I hardly spend any money on food 🙂

damn i need to work where u work. is ur name suppose to be colchicine?

haha we ordered a pizza yesterday, and a patient baked us cookies (which were NASTY, i spit it out). We have food all the time, in fact...two of our floating pharmacists have food on the freakin' filling counter WHILE they are filling. IMO that's a bit too far...but yeah, there's always some sort of food floating around.

see i'd yell at you too.... pharmacy is one thing, research lab is another! I worked in one during my undergrad years, we worked with chemicals you DO NOT ever want inside of you. We kept food/drinks in the designated area vs. the lab bench.

Then again we also kept large amounts of alcohol and beer in there too...for Friday afternoons. 👍

We have food parties once a week in ours:laugh:

there are 5 rooms in there - I was in the room with all comps, as far away from chemicals as possible, but protocol is protocol. 🙂

ok that's just dumb...our "food room" was a little partition about 5 feet away from the lab benches. I'd let you eat up a storm in there then 😀

Learning how to read is crucial if you want to get into pharmacy school - I was trying to get a sip of water not eat. Also you don't know the entire story but already throw words around like dumb - very american thing to do. I was in the lounge room where people check email and listen to music and I do not work with chemicals at all - I mainly analyze data I collected over summer. Again all of this is coming from a person who kept beer in the lab for god's sake ?

whoa you're stupid. I was referring to the rule when saying "that's just dumb" not you. Good lord...calm the eff down.

and yeah our professor kept beer in the fridge...he and the other professors would pow-wow on friday afternoons with a few beers and some chips. Undergrad researchers were invited, of course.

perhaps, I misread your post - I have a pchem final tomorrow and a 2nd highest grade in the class as of right now - I am having a major panic attack and am very nervous. If I took it the wrong way - I am sorry.

Haha...no problem. Let's hold hands and frolic in a field now. 😍

No zero alcohol/tobacco policy at your school?

Of course not, what kind of fun would that be? Besides, the professor I worked with has tenure. I don't think you fire uber famous researchers for bringing in some beer.

My girlfriend's school has a full on pub, lots of beer on tap. I'd recommend the West Coast IPA if you're ever there (in case Irvine decides to open a pharmacy school within a few years). I remember beer gardens at their festivals too.

And we made wine my microbiology lab and went to a brewery for a field trip...good times 👍

If you have such a problem with Americans why are you here? You're not forced to be here. Remember, you are in America, and you are out numbered.

Whatever, I am going to stop explaining myself for all the crimes I did and did not commit. Again, wrote you an explanation but erased it since you are just some random person on SDN. I am 2 nanoseconds away from stopping to come to this forum regardless. Also if you feel like picking on people there is always CL rants and raves.

Let's get back to the subject shall we - this thread is turning from doing it to the life of cheburashka.

The pharmacists get cake for each of the 20 employees birthdays...its great...and yes we order out 3 times a week or so!!

Lucky!!!! I get a 1/2 hour and our pharmacy is so busy that the pharmacists dont take breaks during their 12 hour shift!!! (were open 24 hours a day- and we have a drive through)

wow i never get anything then again i choose never to work on my bday but thats really nice for a pharmacist to do that. ive noticed that sometimes the pharmacists are treated super well though by district like at walgreens the pharmacists at our store each got gift cards while so far the techs didnt get anything.

Today both the pharmacists brought gifts for everyone - cookies! And one of the techs brought presents for everybody too... now I feel like a jackass because I didn't bring any presents.

Our pharmacy manager bought everyone their own $25 Starbucks gift card and the store manager bought us pizza today, which I scarffed down at the in-window hoping not to get caught mid-chomp. Didn't work very well. Had to do the whole fist in front of your mouth while talking with your mouth full thing.
