I have been following this forum for months, but i dont know if i put this thread in the right place, so I apologize if I did this wrong.

well here it goes....

I am from Northern Va, currently taking some courses at a Northern Virginia community college, I am planning to transfer to George Mason by next year and finish my BS Bio degree there. I am married and have a 4 yr old to feed, currently working full time as a dialysis technician. so i dont know if i have so much choices in finding universities. except for george mason which is around the area, or possibly marymount univ.

I wanna know if both university has a decent reputation to do pre meds over there?

tnx in advance

You'd be fine finishing your bachelor's at George Mason. I imagine they have pre-med advisors like any other large university. Just be sure to keep your GPA up wherever you go. 🙂

It isn't the college but your performance that is going to be taken into consideration especially since you are coming from a community college. If you are working and trying to attend school, make sure that you don't take so many hours that you do poorly. Reputation is meaningless if you wind up with poor grades.

Mason has a pre-health advisor that covers medical/dental/pharmacy/optometry/physical therapy/physician assistant/occupational therapy/etc. There's a list-serv with announcements for pre-health students, some pertain more to pre-dental, some to pre-med, etc., and it's pretty straight-forward. There are usually a fair amount of events, campus admissions visits, etc. going on, but you have to seek it out, all though the pre-health advisor is very visible - he goes to a lot of events even tangentially related to pre-health students, i.e. convocations for the university, college of science, etc.

If you want more info, p.m. me, I did undergrad at Mason.
