You are only 1/8 done if you get every summer off. So it's more like 1/10 done.
Great job...the 1/8th referred to semesters...."Done with first SEMESTER finals"On what planet is that math correct? Say medical school lasts from August 2011- May 2015. That's 46 months. By the end of winter break, we're 5 months into medical school, that's 5/46, or roughly 1/9th done. If you subtract the M1 summer (we'll call it 3 months), that's 5/43, getting closer to 1/8th.
If you have 3 months off and 3 summers off (only 3 summers in medical school), that's 9 months; 46-9= 37, 5/37 is pretty close to 1/7.
To summarize: in terms of time in medical school, it's more like 5 months complete of 43 months spent actually in medical school, or if you'd like to take the entire time, it's 46 months. If you subtract imaginary summers, it goes down to 5/37.

It feels incredibly weird going a whole day without studying. Don't know how I'm going to make it through these next two weeks.
that was pretty passive, but I only said that because I thought beta was just putting the kid down for saying 1/8..+1
It makes me sad that people on SDN can be so petty that they'll argue over logistics when someone says that they are 1/8 of the way to being an MD. Jesus....this isn't a difficult concept to figure out and take at face value without arguing for the simple sake of arguing haha.

another way to look at it is you're that much closer to the Step I....
yeah who ever these debbie downers and negative nancies are, need to take a freakin chill pill. I just got done with my first semester of MS 3 and I still celebrate like I am a half doctor after every milestone which includes getting done with every rotation including selectives sometimes. Thats how you get through this journey sohn.
