Hi:

I took my DAT few days ago, and thought I share my experience since you all have been really helpful and supportive. Here are my results:

BIO 22
OC 25
GC 27
PAT20
RC 23
QR 26
AA 25
TS 24

Bio: Just like everyone mentioned, while Kaplan covered most of the topics, many questions still caught me off guard. I've only had one semester of gen bio, so I study both Kaplan and Cliff's AP bio to get more familiar with the topics.

GC and OC: They are a lot easier than Kaplan and Topscore. I practiced by using Cliff's AP Chemistry and EK OC 1001 after reading through Kaplan's blue book. For OC: the questions are mostly about SN1/SN2/E1/E2, couple of nomenclatures, acidity and basicity. For GC: periodic trends, lots of gas law questions.

PAT: Aperture and pattern folding questions were a lot tougher (at least in my case). Half of the angle ranking problems are easy, half are extremely difficult. I usually have about 15 min to double check my answers on Kaplan and TS practice tests, but I almost ran out of time on the real thing. I also used acethedat.com for practice with this section. Their science sections are terrible though.

RC: This is my weakest section. English is not my first language, and I am a slow reader. I think being really focused during the test helped. My topics were genes, stock market, and astronomy.

QR: I didn't study much for this section except for memorizing some trig formulas.

Just want to thank everyone for your help and support. I am keeping my fingers crossed, and hope to hear from the schools soon.....

Thanks people. Since I grew up in California, I would like to attend the schools here. I just love the beautiful weather. Even though I am content with my DAT scores, my GPA is pretty average. So, I am keeping my fingers crossed.....

lilith i have only had one sem of gen bio...
did u find any questions related to genetics, evolution, or zoology? I feel strong im most other areas but weak in these. I want to apply my time efficiently as I take the DAT on the 13th...thanks so much.

Hi Drusier:

I had two genetics questions (solved with Punette squares), one question about embryology, two about specific organisms, and one (or two) on ecology, nothing on taxonomy on the real test. These questions made up about 25% of my bio section. The rest on about human body and cells. Since the questions were drawn randomly, it's hard to say how much time one should spend going over these topics. These are my weak areas also b/c just like you, I had only taken one sem of bio. I used Cliff's AP Bio, and I learned these topics more thoroughly. (or at least gave me the confidence to eliminate the wrong answers) If you already feel comfortable with 1st sem materials, then I would recommend going over your weak areas. Definitely do some problems. (I forgot to mentioned that I acutally used GRE biology as practice since there are many questions about evolution, genes, and ecology, although I couldn't answer many other questions) You can always use logic to weed out the wrong answers for materials you are familiar with. It's the materials that one doesn't know lower ones score.

Good Luck on your test!!!!

wow im glad ur not applying to any of the same schools as me! 🙂 kick ass scores! it boggles my mind that anyone can do that well

Incredible job!!! All that studying paid off for sure. Good luck with the application cycle, youll have no problem.

Kaplan's blue book, is that from the class, or did you buy it from the bookstore?

You can either buy it at the bookstore, buy it online thru amazon or do what I did: bid on it through e-bay. I actually saved myself about $40.
Good luck!
