I interviewed at Tufts recently and it seems rather pointless for anyone who has other acceptances to travel down to Boston. I feel like I wasted my money because they have about 18 spots left and they have left to interview 74 people. Just giving you guys who are interviewing at the end to save yourself some hassle and dont bother with this school.

Overall, the faculty didnt really care for us interviewers because they already have enough acceptances sent out to cover for the 165 spots.

yah i agree aswell! They have very few spots left (under 20) and are interviewing so many people for these spots! save your time and money and dont bother with them.

True. I interviewed recently, and I was amazed to see that they only have 19 spots left, and are interviewing close to 70 people within a span of one week.
I think one of the students there mentioned that most of the people from here on will be put on a wait-list.
Anyhow, the school is good. Construction may cause some problems, but they seemed to have planned everything out.

That seems about normal. Getting into dental school is, and should be, a competitive process.

That's a bummer. I interview there next week, so most likely that will be three waitlists and no acceptances...weak

There will be a ton of movement from TUFTs as other people get acceptances to less expensive schools. Those 18 spots could end up being 50 spots...who knows, you sure don't.

I agree. And most schools at this point are wrapping up interviews, and there still are some seats to be taken. For the people who don't have acceptances yet, going to these interviews will still give you a fighting chance.

19 seats is plenty! Since you only need one. Anywho, since when is interviewing a game of chances? Do what you went there to do and you can expect an acceptance within a week.

people gave the same, or worse, odds for the waitlist at UoP. i went up there knowing I was interviewing for an alternate spot. There were 9 of us there, and at least 2 of us got accepted to the waitlist.

If you don't go, you have no chance.

Forget my negative attitude...I have had my coffee now. I am just going to dominate the interview and get one the spots! haha, I am excited.

There's nothing to lose but everything to gain. Not getting in this cycle is nothing to be ashamed about. There's always next year. 👍

Obviously, it would be stupid to skip the interview just because people are venting their frustration on SDN. I certainly encourage everyone to go and check the place out. You will like it! It's a great school.

Regarding the waitlist, I was told that last year, 9 people got off the waitlist. Year before, only 2. So, it's very unpredictable.
Wishing everyone best of luck!👍

Those numbers are pretty bad..lol

its not such a great school IMO. I don't understand the hype around Tufts. I say NYU is better than Tufts.

Am I the only person that doesn't think that 18/74 is that bad? If you're going into the interview pessimistic and bitter, you deserve to be waitlisted.

jb!🙂

to the OP....this is what happens late in the cycle at every school. they have less spots but still have to interview the people that they extended the visit for. i doubt it has anything to do with Tufts. VCU jsut wrapped up their interview process but were still interviewing up until last week or so. i know they didn't have many spots left. i just interviewed at maryland this week and am sure that the 14 of us there were only interviewing for far less spots then the group in sept. case has ppl scheduled up into march for the waitlist....what else did you expect?

For a dental student, it is worth nothing, really. For you, those are just plain numbers. For people waiting on their acceptances, that figure translates into a huge amount of anxiety and impatience.

But, yes, it is fairly late in the process. Every university is following a similar protocol. We can't blame anyone. 🙂

18 spots/74 applicants = 24.3% chance of acceptance.

Unless I am missing something here, which could certainly be the case, your statements are simply illogical.

As far as only having 18 spots, you are only 1 person so in reality only 1 spot is needed and that is all that matters. If you have no other acceptances the worst thing that happens by attending the interview, is that you have another chance and get to practice your interview skills. Good luck to anyone that decides to go up to their interview. I liked the school when i interviewed and the faculty was very nice to our group.

ummm... I applied in May last year and wasn't accepted until June. I know a thing or two about anxiety 🙄

Yikes! Good thing for me it was quick and painless. 👍

Yes, I know.🙂

I wasn't taking a shot at you, jb. Just expressing me opinion. I completely do agree with everyone's post here regarding the stats. But, for an applicant, things are just a bit different.🙂

I was waitlisted and I am pretty disappointed - but I will certainly wait it out. I really fell in love with the school and all of the people I met were so friendly.

Hopefully other people will get worried about the upcoming construction and drop from the class so I can take their spot 😉

Well dentistdiva,
you are still in the running. There should be a lot of movement in schools like Tufts since there are expensive private schools. You never know somebody may get a last minute acceptance somewhere and bail on them.

Remember you are in better standing than me in regards to Tufts.👍
I've been rejected you've been waitlisted.
Yeah technically, but you see they only accepted 2 people last year and around 6 year before that.

Eh? You have a complex or something? FYI, I interviewed at both NYU & Tufts and got accepted to both. I don't know about NYU being better or Tufts being better, but honestly I think they are both great schools and that's why I applied to both in the first place.

Anyway, isn't this post about Tufts interview? 😕 Is NYU any relevant?

18 out of 74 are pretty good odds. No offense but when I first read the post it sounded as though you were discouraging others to go so you would have better odds.

I don't think that was his motive. You think people will change their minds about attending an interview after reading a post on SDN?😀 Come on ...lol

Waaaa… Cool down dude. Shiny just expressed an opinion…. IMO both schools are extremely expansive, but if hypothetically one of these schools accepted me and it would be the ONLY school I’ve got in, I would go for it in a heart bit.

All I said was "it sounded like it". I too doubt that it was his motive. I have cancelled an interview after reading posts on SDN...is that a problem? Granted I found out that the info was legit.

I like opinions too. His comment interjecting a school not in discussion and bashing the former, was idiotic.

well i think we are all ready for this gossip and skirmishes in dental school
