So I'm an american citizen who has lived in Canada his whole life. Im currently doing my undergrad in bio. First semester wasn't good (2.5), but am hoping to get A's this semester and start volunteering at a hospital.

Don't know much about american schools as of yet, but was wondering what kind of gpa is considered decent for LOW tier med schools? Basically I just want to get into an md school, I don't care where it is in the states. So if someone could give me what to expect from these low tier schools and the names or where I could get more information.

Also any advice for what I should do now, I'm going to start volunteering this semester.

A copy of the MSAR (Medical School Admission Requirements) has the median stats for those accepted to each US and Canadian school as well as the 10th-90th percentile ranges for those numbers, as well as lots of other useful information. Since it includes Canadian schools, there may be one in your PreMed advising office or college reference library. Or you can buy one on-line.

Besides some clinical volunteering, also consider getting a start on some weekly or twice monthly nonmedical community service. Read through these forums for a broad picture of what other applicants are doing.
