I didn't know where else to post this but I'm working on a research assignment for my english course that entails me getting in contact with 2 people in my chosen field (I picked Dermatology) and interviewing them online. My professor showed this through LinkedIn but that didn't work for me because it wouldn't let me even view profiles let alone messaging them without a certain number of connections or something so I was hoping to find a practicing dermatologist here or over on reddit that would be willing to let me interview them online.

I'm not sure where I can go to do this but I was hoping someone could tell me where the best place to do this would be. Also does anyone know how to work around that Linkedin problem?

You might want to be less narrow and just say two people working as physicians... narrowing it down to dermatologists is making it much more difficult.

You should have some contacts with physicians through your shadowing or volunteering, right? If not, it is time to go the friend of a friend or a friend route and look for someone who knows one of your family members, who is a loyal alumnus of your HS or college, or in some other way might be disposed to doing you this favor.

On the off chance that you do not have physician contacts or peripheral contacts as the wise @LizzyM suggests, hmmm usually, hospital websites have physician profiles. Their email is not listed there but sometimes at big reaearch instititions, their physician profile is linked to their lab/research page. Their email is usually listed there.

Since you’re interested in online interviews, you can basically try this for any hospital you can think of. Just look up the specialty and check for their reaearch pages. Takes some work but can be done! Good luck OP

Edit: or a more laborious way if that fails... look up physician scientists, then look up their papers. If you can get access to those papers (or whatever is publicly accessible), check to see if they are the corresponding author on that paper. Then check for their contact/email info at the bottom of the paper (fine print).

If your school has its own med school you could ask some med students who they think would be willing to give you an interview. There are probably a few mentors involved with the derm interest group and maybe someone who gave a lecture and left their contact info.
