hey guys i took the DAT on September18th and i got a 15 on it,,,, im retaking the exam again December 18th I know what to study but the Biology part of the test ,,, when i took the test for the first time i studied Kaplan,,, and took the top score exams i was scoring 17 or 18 on the top score but this time im really scared about biology ,,, i would like to hit new stuff so what do you think the best source is for biology besides Kaplan,,,,??????

kaplan is pretty good and studying that will get you up to 20-21. just my opinion that is...but i think if you really want to aim high i say grab a textbook and go at it! it all depends on your scores on other sections too. i'd rather study my ass off for the other sections and improve that way instead of putting all my money in on bio. seriously, you really have no way of guessing what'll be on your section. most of what i studied didn't even show up. if you have the time to read an entire bio textbook then you're gonna rock that part. otherwise, study effectively by reading kaplan bb and taking their subject and full length tests-including flash cards if you have them. i'm not sure if they give you those items when you buy the book. i took the class instead so i'm in the dark about that part. either way, if you want the subject tests, pm me and i'll send them to you. in the end, reading the question carefully and understanding what they're asking is the key to this section!

get all the books, kaplan, schaums, ap bio, exam crackers flash cards then make your own flash cards using campbell bio on the stuff you don't know... then do all the kaplan practice tests and topscore etc... that's what I did and got a 25 in bio. Just study a lot and know everything.

Schaum's definently (their Chemistry is excellent too). Get the Kaplan flashcards if you can (if you know someone who took the Kaplan MCAT course, they use the same cards as the DAT, so that may be a good place to look. Their test is only offered twice a year, and there are bound to be big stretches of time where they are not being used). Finally, I found a great resource that I have not read about anywhere on this site. Go to the textbook publisher's web sites. Many of them do not require a password key. They have many many quizzes on all the areas. I stuck with intro biology books. Good Luck!

I'd say to go back to your biology book/notes from when you took the classes. I used my old notes and concentrated on subjects I thought were relevent. Just put in the time and you'll do fine. May as well get used to it....once you start dental school you'll have plenty of tests to study for....then come boards.

I agree with this post and to add, if you have the Campbells book, then go ahead and sign up for the website as a student and take their practice quizzes, they will be helpful.
Good luck!

schaum's and kaplan.. anything more is too much.. just concentrate on these two books and try to read it over and over as many times as possible to the point of memroization
