Don't waste time on Certiphi

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Probably depends on who gets it (if a real person even looks at it). I’m an older non-trad and couldn’t even put all my addresses in because they didn’t have enough spaces. It took about 3 days for mine to come back, but it didn’t matter that I didn’t list everything. Like you said, just put as much as you can/know and you’ll be fine.

Anyone with the experience of having a previous permanent resident outside of the US know what to do about that on Certiphi? From what I'm seeing there isn't an option for other countries/ provinces... I'm about to just skip that address but thought it couldn't hurt to ask

When I try adding a new address, I have the option to change my country. If I do Canada, a box for province pops up. Maybe try a different browser?

For my fellow future-MD friends who have just received their Certiphi forms (or will get them later this Winter/Spring-contingent upon acceptances), I would love to share some tips about filling it out. Hope this is helpful in some way, since people here seem to be anxious about perfecting their forms...

- I received my Certiphi email on Jan 2, took me about 15 mins to fill out (and this was including the time it took to call their help desk!)
- I moved several times in my childhood (same city)
- I listed whatever addresses came to mind, to the best of my ability.

If you call them to ask about any part of the application, they clearly state several times that they cannot help you answer ANYTHING (They can PROBABLY help define terms for you that you don't understand, but given the implications of what your are filling out, they remain uninvolved.. but I was assured that if there were any questions or uncertainties, they will inquire for further information. <- I think that is key.

If you are not sure, try to fill it out as much as you can. If something seems off, I doubt they will toss your files into the bin.
You will most likely be contacted to provide more information and I don't think that would even be the end of the world.
Also, I think if you lived across states, held multiple jobs out of college, it might take a few more days to verify.

The confirmation email gives you a link to download your report, which shows several pages of checks (separated- based on FEDERAL, STATE, etc level checks)
"CLEAR" is the answer you are looking for!
There's another box on the website that allows you to release the forms to your medical schools.

Best of luck to you all and Congratulations :claps:

Oh yup, I switched my browser and this worked. Thank you!!

Do you know if the check was supposed to also screen for employment history? Or only criminal records?

Uh, is this a box for after you get your report back? Mine just says "automatically released in (whatever) amount of days" ... I don't see anything for sending them immediately.

Look above that, there is an option that says "Release report"
and then you check a little box, sign on the dotted line and youre good to go!

Oh I see, wow thanks!

Also, did you get a " See Below" for military discharge history? (assuming you're not a veteran).

So... am I stupid? I'm not seeing "Release report" anywhere. I've already submitted my form, the check isn't completed yet. Is it under authorization or somewhere else on the site?

On the page that says "Download my report" when your report is completed, there is another option above that saying "Release report"
Below all of these is another line saying that it will be released automatically in 10 days or whatever

If a veteran, be prepared to provide them a copy of your DD214. Seems like they should be able to proof service without it since they are the background check company but w/e

Oh, great, so I'll just be patient then. Thank you!

Yes! There is no need to do anything after submitting your initial online form. And also keep in mind, depending on your background/addresses etc, it may take longer for some people. The emails that hits your inbox when your check is complete will tell you everything.

If you list any international addresses, be aware that it may slow down your turnaround time/they may require additional info. Mine took more than a few days (can't remember exactly, I think more like a couple weeks) because they needed a copy of my passport for some reason

With 25 years back I had to list 6 addresses in the US and 5 back in the Old World. Some, I did not remember my apartment numbers but just FYI, google maps helps with the street addresses - just try to find your old stomping grounds and look up the address on the side 🙂

Anyone with a past Canadian address have to do this additional form that must be faxed? I left when I was like 2 years old so I don't know if it's entirely necessary lol

I saw this too and am thinking the same thing. I don’t know how necessary it is. I‘ll probably wait a week or two and see if the background check clears without me sending in the form

So I submitted my app without it and it cleared within like 2 hours.

My background check said something about how I was under 18 in Canada so they couldn’t get the information anyway.

yeah I called them about this question bc in the end it still wouldn't even let me put in my Canadian address. They said they can't input international addresses if you were under 18 when you lived there (???). They also said whether you're even able to input them depends on the school asking (???)

Do medical schools have access to the background check as soon as you release it? I asked a school that I was accepted to, but they haven't received it yet. Released two days ago.

They required info to know where I lived before I was born (???).

I also made up some addresses b/c I forgot and it still went through and completed in a day don’t waste your time on this

Just when u think you’re ok...
