I have met a few DOs with New York MD license plates. Is this common? Is this also the case in other states? Is this practice considered a taboo by the DO world, heck is it considered taboo by the MD/PhD/PsyD/etc world? More importantly, is it considered unethical? Would you consider them to be hiding their degrees?

After all, if a DO's signature is:

Dr. John Smith
[Anesthesiologist]

on their lab coats, stationary, office signs, emails, etc. and then puts an MD on his license plate, wouldn't you consider him to be hiding his degree (perhaps because of lack of public DO recognition, to avoid confusion/explanations from patients, etc)?

Or are the MD plates simply because
A. There are no DO license plates because of whatever reason
B. for Doctor Only parking spots near hospitals and the ability to park without feeding the meter/near a hydrant

?

Please don't bash me. I'm simply someone who wants to know.

Does it really matter? Who cares... I think they probably don't have DO plates, not that they chose against them.

Totally unethical, I'm glad you brought this to our attention. I'll call the AOA, these frauds' licenses should be stripped immediately.🤣

Hard to take this post seriously, c'mon license plates?? really??

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say their probably just aren't enough DOs/there isn't a significant difference to warrant separate license plates.

There are some hospitals that on their ID system only have an "MD" tag for doctors, thus all doctors receive an MD on their ID badge. I bet this is the same scenerio for license plates, you check that you are a doctor and you get the "MD" plate.

Lol, how hard can it possibly be to have an ID badge printer print DO in stead of MD... craziness

I think at least 90% of the public would not know what it meant if a plate said "DO," thus they probably don't make very many. I don't think it's unethical. Jeez.

Hypnotherapists, accountants, and engineers have their own license plates. Oh yeah, there's 2 DDS plates and 1 DMD plate. Hell, there's even an OD plate. Just saying.

I read somewhere today that DO is taken by another organization.

Now I know you sdn e-thugs will have a ball with this post. Enjoy.

interesting they have all except D.Os. So the guy got an MD license plate... oh well 🙂

Or you could just get a regular license plate...

I personally would never want my job revealed on my license plate. But that's just me.

 Chiropractor license plate. Nice.

I think it's mostly an issue with hospital parking. That, and of course the show-off factor (MDs and DOs)
