Hi Everyone!

MCAT: Have not taken
GPA: 3.91

I am currently a neuroscience major and i absolutely LOOOOVE it. Im thinking of getting into personal training because it would it would help me develop people skills as well as let me expand my resume, and i LOVE working out, bodybuilding, and powerlifting. This idea led me to this... Another major I am interested in is human physiology! It's really fascinating and the human physiology at my college includes courses such as, pathology of diseases, basic pharmacology, organ systems, anatomy, and cell biology. All of these courses i'm sure will be helpful in medical school! I am a sophomore, and I will be finished with my pre-med requirements at the end of this semester. I am in the process of the interview process for getting a position working in a lab will start me honors project maybe next year. I'll also want to start a personal training gig next year in the fall as well!

Some concerns I have are:
1) I've heard that doubles majors DON'T help anyone get into medical school, and that it might be looked down upon in some cases.
2) its often said that if one were to double major, one should NOT do two sciences because medical schools want a "well rounded" applicant (but i loooove neuro and human physiology). rather one should do something like "bio + poli-sci" or "chem-computer science" or "neuro - spanish"
3) if i choose to double major, ill have to go up to the full semester hours limit of 18. this might be a lot of work. But... none of the classes are hard like organic chem, they are mostly factual memorization classes from what ive heard. this would mimic medical school and get me use to absorbing lots of information in short periods of time. I am also well versed in anki, and multiple memorization techniques (thanks med school insiders)

As long as youre interested and can maintain good grades it really doesnt matter what you end up choosing 1 or 2 majors. If asked about it its a good talking point it seems!

no, it is more than that. Maintaining good grades AND having time and effort for the non class items that matter greatly in med school acceptance. And if you dont have an application that gets you an interview, talking means “drek”

I was under the assumption that he could handle it all and wanted to know if adding a double major is beneficial in general. NS major at my school was quite literally a joke and it could be at theirs. OP is also done with premed reqs as well.

Double majors are neither a plus or minus. Follow your passions, do well, and you will be fine--whether or not you pursue a double major.

Ive never heard of it being looked down upon, but that is a lot of hours. Make sure you have enough time for all the other stuff you need for your app and for mcat prep. That stuff is actually important. Having a double major won’t help you at all if your app is bare and your mcat is mediocre.

It's a pretty sweet combination in my opinion. Being a personal trainer would be a neat 'attention grabber' as well.

If you can pull it off, then I don't see why not. That's a large if, however, and I would recommend you consult with your school's advisors every step of the way.
