Okay, so another question:

I'm posting in my hours right now. I worked over a 1000 hours as a dental admin manager and this is dental related but also my work. They have the option to select "paid." Do I still post it under work experience?

If so, should I flag both for the pdf coversheet or just use one? Thanks in advance.

Edit: while i'm at it, the job is at a non-profit serving the community. So technically I could triple post that one. I have another job i worked 140 hours and same thing...dental related/shadowing.

Never double or triple count. Choose what you think is the most relevant section. I'd put it under dental experience. You say there's a paid option, which adcoms will also view as a job.

I agree!

What's the reasoning behind that? Just out of curiosity. And because I need to know 😉

It's overstating your experience and pretty much a lie. If you count your 1000 hours 3 times, it is saying you put in 3000 hours, which you did not.

I see. That makes good sense. I have more than enough work experience. Last questions: Can I put trading stocks/options as work experience? Idk what I'd put for hours though... And I took a mission trip to Haiti through my school. Would that be extracurricular (it was part of a curriculum, but was also community service), academic enrichment, or research? We basically did soil testing half the time and planted crops for a future research team. Thanks!!

I would put the stock trading down as a hobby if that is what it was, unless you were a broker somewhere. The Haiti trip I would put down as volunteer hours but only the time you spent in Haiti, not the classroom hours.

Curriculum means subjects of study in school/college. Your mission trip would "enrich your academics," unless it was through a club at your school. If this is the case, list it under extracurricular experience. Options trading is outside of your curriculum, hence extracurricular experience.

Thanks, guys! My only dilemma with putting Haiti as enrichment is from this link: http://www.adea.org/dental_educatio...uctions/Pages/AcademicEnrichmentPrograms.aspx

It says they're sponsored by colleges and frequently targeted at students w/disadvantaged backgrounds. I take that as "special tutoring" kind of deal. I'm thinking extracurricular because it's the same section for volunteer hours, which is what it was. Oh well. I think either way I'll be fine.

Not a section for hobbies 🙂 So I'll do extracurricular as well for the options.
