stinkycheese said:It is unethical to go to another school after starting orientation at your original school, bc you have now taken a seat from the original school that may not be able to be filled on such short notice. Unfair, and unprofessional.
DrKram20 said:Congrats Yodaf, it's comforting to know that things are actually moving in the world. That call must have taken the weight of the world off your shoulders, I'm hoping for one of those myself. So if you got into Upstate, where would you head in the fall, or in two weeks I should say. Congrats again. 😀
jiggaman said:well that's good news that they are at least takin ppl off the list. do any of you think it would be a good idea to meet with the dean. that's what im debating on doing. i've heard many ppl tell me that it might be a good idea. let me know what you guys think.
beastmaster said:Why, do you think it will make a difference?
prabhara said:ok, here are my thoughts.....
this part was explained to me by a prominent member on the BU adcom: a medical school one week out of orientation will look into taking applicants who have NOT been accepted to other medical schools. they give these people preference because they know that if they were to offer a seat, said person would accept immediately. obviously, this would minimize wasting time calling applicants who have already been accepted elsewhere (and also the school to which they have been accepted, as per amcas guidelines).
on a more basic level, a medical school WANTS to accept students who want to be there. who wants to accept mopey students who'd rather be elsewhere?!
on a more personal level, DO YOU WANT TO GO TO MEDICAL SCHOOL OR NOT?? at this point you have absolutely nothing to lose!! there's absolutely no reason you shouldn't be clawing your way into school unless you really want to wait another year and redo the entire process and associated anxiety again. excuse my french, but seriously, grab life by the balls and squeeze. you have nothing to lose and only everything to gain......
slyboy101 said:I just spoke with Victor Ruiz and he said that they accept people up until August 16 (he called it the "cut off day"), which is the first day of orientation. I saw that someone else had posted that it could be up until August 23...but I thought I'd just pass this on.
Good luck everyone...I'm still waiting too 🙁
slyboy101 said:thanks for the info yodaf...that is better news hehe...also good to know that there still might be some miracle spots available come next week...i'll cross my fingers! 😀
jiggaman said:so ive decided not to go down to see the dean. this kid i know also waitlisted called to make an appointment...the assistant told him that it was not a wise decision to meet with the dean..you may come across too desperate..the guy just said to be patient. so im not takin the chance. just gotta be patient..hopefully there will be some movement this week.
Didn't some say that they will be pulling from the waitlist until the end of next week? Although with orientation starting next week it is doubtful that there will be any movement. Continued good luck to myself and the rest who are still waiting. 👍jiggaman said:but she said we do have till the end of the week.
